Still getting great shots!
Your wife did well Al, a very good pic of the swans!
Love the eagle shot Grasmussen!
Good capture adelbert, what is the bird with the acorn?
All I got today in our little bit of sunshine was a streaked Jay in an Oak as it was about to jump further out of my sight, and a Wood Pigeon landed in the Horse Chestnut so I got him (I guess) amongst the autumn leaves.
DAILY PICS VOL. 27
No bird pics for me today.
I like the 'Breakfast' shot.
Sybil - I haven't noticed it, but it wouldn't surprise me with the various locations they are migrating through from.
wallaby1 it's a Western Scrub-Jay
ROTFLMBO!!!
have you noticed a difference in color on the robins that winter over in WI?
Part of it is sex differences (males darker red than females), part of it is regional variation (darkest birds on the east coast of Canada). The sex difference is more significant than the regional variation, though; the two in the pic above are a male on the left and a female on the right.

Nice ones tiger!
We had quite chilly weather yesterday and all the bird baths were frozen in the morning.
We had a Sharp-shinned Hawk hanging around alot yesterday so there were quite a few times when there were no birds at all in the yard.
***lilyfantn will be starting the new thread soon***
I have to get used to this cooler weather before I go walking aroung outside again. :-)
Resin - that's interesting. All the robins I have seen before have then been female and all the robins I saw the other day were male. I will have to watch more closely in the future. I am learning so much by participating in this forum.
Sybil,
I don't think that is the case with these northern Robins. I know exactly what you are talking about when you say these light-colored robins showing up. I have seen these for years in the autumn. They look as if someone dusted the Robins we're used to seeing in the summer, with flour. And I know they're not all females because they will sing in the Fall. They don't sing with as much gusto as in the Spring but it's definitely the male Robin song. Listen for it.
Jimbo
adel, I thought that bird was dead for a second!!! lol
Missed seeing all your pics the last week. None to add, but I'm watching our pond in front. Sunday we were leaving to go have a burger in the evening and were astonished to see EIGHT bluebirds on/in the water feature. We've never had more than three at a time before. I suspect they were searching for water/food sources away from the fires. Also, we are on the migration path and will get groups of visitors now and again. Hope they stick around - we do have a house up for them.
Kathleen
Kaperc..................glad to see you back safe and sound.
Thanks Jimbo. So we have a variety of Robins it seems.

That's beautiful adel! Do you know what kind of bird it is?
Also, great pictures to everyone else too. I have really enjoyed looking at them. I love your nuthatchh pics tigerlily. Boy, you really are able to get close to yours! Tonight while I was outside filling my feeders at 6:00pm (already starting to get dark - wah!) my red breasted nuthatch came right ovver to eat from the newly filled feeder. I was only about a foot away on the other side. I held my breath and froze in place. He/she flew about another foot away to eat and watch me at the same time. I wonder if they are an unusually tame species?
adelbertcat,
It looks to me like a canary.
Its posted again in the new forum. :-)

Hi everyone I am back from my trip, Dinu I saw loads of those 'hawks' or 'kites' or whatever all over Karachi, plus millions of crows, we had lots of sparrows regularly and mynahs in the garden, also saw some of the green parrots which I hadn't seen for many years, the one bird I did like very much was about the same size as a cardinal and brown with a black head and a little crest on top like the cardinal, I did ask everyone what it was called but the only name I got was a Hudu then I was told it wasn't that, alas I could not get near enough for pictures. I also managed to see alot of cricket - pity your lot was winning the series when I left!

Sounds like a bulbul of some sort. My guess the most likely would be Red-vented Bulbul, but also check Red-whiskered Bulbul.
Resin
Thanks Resin, I had a hunt around for pictures, and it looks like what I saw, there wasn't any yellow, red or rings around the eyes, just plain black tufted heads. They were a pair and were quite happy around the sparrows.
