In the evening on Oct 8th, I was out in back planting 2 abelia bushes 'rose creek', both of which were in bloom. This is the description of what flew by. It was about 2 1/2 inches long, brown in color, wings that beat like a hummingbird. It fed on the abelia blooms for a few seconds (like a hummingbird) before flying off. I did have hummingbirds this summer, but the birds were gone by the end of September. Do hummingbirds fly at night? It was pretty dark out when this happened. Any suggestions what this might be?
CLOSED: Buzzed at dusk - sorry, no picture.
There are lots of Hummingbird moths, and some of them fly at night.
I don't know if a Hummingbird would fly ay night though.

Thank you. First time I ever saw one. After checking some photos of a hummingbird moth, I'm sure that is what I saw.
