The hotel you mentioned used to be a Hampton Inn but now, apparently, has been bought by Ramada so it is a Ramada Inn. That one is about a half mile from where I am. There is a Best Western that is even closer to where the Big Ear Fest will be held (about 1/4 mile); it is on Krome Avenue south of Palm Drive and just west of US 1.
There is also another hotel on the SE corner of Krome and Palm Drive; I don't think it is a "brand name" hotel but is a large one. Actually you have plenty to choose from, from low budget to national chain. And of course there is the Everglades Hostel on Palm Drive; the people that run it are friends of ours we've known for years. You could walk to the Big Ear Fest from there, but not if you have had too many Margaritas!

Has it been decided yet on the dates for big ear fest? I'm trying to plan PTO with my work and i need a final date. it really doesn't matter to me which date it is...?.?

I'm still here, my EARS are still growing ever larger, and I've just been busy what with the time of year and all. Besides, the weather is forecast to get cold here, 70s, and that is cause for alarm (tease, tease). I promise some pics forthwith!

OK, time for a mini show - this first picture is of one of my Imperial Giants (hopefully some will be available at the Big Ear Fest). Plant is well over 5 feet tall and is just getting under way (December 28, 2007)
This next picture is my Alocasia brisbanensis x Alocasia 'Sarian'; this will not be available at the Big Ear Fest as this is the only potful I have!

Lariann that philodendron is very nice. You say it is a hybrid of gloriosum? It looks like it is crossed with selloum is it a crawler or from the pic it looks like a meconostigma? Very nice though.

The other parent is not a meconostigma, although I have done tons of crosses with meconostigmas. The plant I used is at this link:

I just took some pictures of the inflorescences on this other parent, and you will see they are not like those on any meconostigma!
