The only thing on my card when I bought my plant was it is a "Princess Lily". I have looked on the net to see how to prepare it for winter, but all I get is info on Princess Diana. Here is a picture of my Lily, can anyone tell me if I need to prune, cut back, etc for winter in zone 8a.
Thanks
Vicki
I need info on Princess Lily, not Princess Di
This is an Alstroemeria, I have two which I leave in large tubs outside over winter, both have survived for several years now but one started to dwindle so I took some off to grow in a large pot which I overwinter in the garage under a window for insurance. The other one has done well except for this year, it barely made a show but we had an extrememly cold summer.
You should just leave it to die back naturally, I'm not sure if it will survive well in the ground as I use leaf compost which gives good drainage. They like to be kept moist at all times. You could try splitting it, leave some in the ground and pot some up to keep under cover for winter. They make a hard crown with long, fleshy tubers. You can cut some of the crown off carefully lifting the attached tubers with it, best if you can get at least 4 tubers.
Princess Lily is a Trademark.
