Need help with bush mg

Mountain Home, AR

I have a huge bush morning glory and it is going to get cold tonight . I would like to be able to keep this plant over the winter. I have read in the plant files that you can cut them and keep them in a cool dark place in water. I also seem to remember someone saying you can dig the tuberand store it dry and replant it in the spring . Can anyone tell me what is the best way to over winter this plant? It has many branches that could be cut and rooted.
thanks

Hi Ladyblues - Trying several approaches may work out best..I'd definitely root some of the branches and place them in a sunny spot...

The root may overwinter better as a trimmed down plant if you have a spot where it can receive some sunlight onto the branches...

The root with most of the stems removed can be overwintered by placing it in damp sawdust with some hardwood ashes sprinkled around the root...the ashes act to discourage any pathogens...keep it on the damp side but not wet...letting the sawdust dry out a bit inbetween dampness is usually a good idea...

The other members may have additional input to share from their experience on overwintering Ipomoea carnea...
