Australian Transparent?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I just received these seeds in a trade and the trader really didn't know much about the., does anyone know anything about them? I thought it was a light pink rambler from the picture. The seeds were surprisingly very similar to my Sydney, which produces a light bluish flower and tan seed. Any ideas, I like it and will try it inside...

Ron does the PR produce light seeds?

Most of the light pink Ipomoea purpurea flowers produce light seeds, but I have relatively light pink I.purpurea that are from dark seeds...the flowers from the dark seeded form are a little bit darker but basically look the same...

The difference in the seed color of the light pink I.purpurea doesn't produce as much of a difference as is seen in the I.nil Tie Dye and the I.nil Candy Stripe Purple...the dark seeded Tie Dyes seem to carry for a blue and a purple flower whereas the light seeded CSP only carries for a purple which is very similar to the Tie Dye...

Perhaps at some point more precise comparisons can be documented for any relevant differences...

Hey, They are very pretty. I`d mark the flowers and check the seeds later to confirm that these make tan seeds. If they do then you have a pink rambler that makes tan seeds. Then I`d plant and grow more to see what happens later. You might or might not have a hybrid with some interesting possibilities. You never know until you sow. Karen

Thanks guys...Anybody in the warm climates want to grow a few for me?

The person Katlian who submitted one of the pictures reported the seeds were beige or tan. I haven`t seen any like this before. I think they are really neat. Karen

Ronnie - You can send me 2-3 seeds if you like. (Stick them in a regular envie.) I'll grow them out and we can see what blooms they produce with this generation. ;-) I do like the light pink color. Stands out nicely against the leaves! :-)

I would grow some but it is too late to plant here. I`d grow some next year if that was ok. Karen

Karen - You mentioned

"I haven`t seen any like this before. "

Do you mean that you haven't seen light pink purpureas with light colored seeds(?!)...

Katlian showed me her photos and described the plant to me before creating the PlantFiles entry...

I think you were nice to evaluate Katlian`s pictures and help with the plant files entry.

I, didn't get them from Katlian. I will ask my trader where she got them...

Ronnie, I want to say they look very unique, I have never grown any light pink with tan seeds and I would love to try them. Karen

I have both tan and black seeds of this bloom. They look identical like Ron said, only the black seeded one is a little darker. I never tried crossing the two, anybody want a pair to try? I could do maybe 5 pairs of 2 of each seed.

Eva - Nice looking purpurera...

The dark seeded forms tend to have more off a solid reflective surface as compared to the light seeded forms which have more of a tendency to have a quasi-transparent look to the corolla limb...

Eva, I would be interested in your dark seeds to compare the flower to the light seeds I already have...

Eva - I am always game for anything I haven't tried yet! Doing a cross between those seeds/vines sounds like fun! I don't see too many light pink MGs.

Done and done! I'll send them out this week for you 2 to try. Happy Harvest!

Hi if tan seeds means that the colour is the same as the light seeds to Sydney, so have I also grow purpureas and got tan seeds and black seed, I had to pink coloured flower and I suppose then that it was the pretty liht pink one which had the tan seeds, I only notice the two colour of the seeds when I bought the seeds!
Look at my pretty light pink. This ones I grow for about 5 years ago, no seeds left.

First when I harvest the seeds I thougt that the tan ones was defect, but as they sprout I understand they where virable and should look out like that.
