A seedling to keep

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I have had to pitch so many seedlings this fall, actually gave most of them away as people wanted them for the remainder of the season, so it was a nice surprise to find this one in bloom. It starts a strong white with no signs of color, then develops a peach tone the fourth or fifth day. Would have preferred the white but I'll take what I'm given. :) Next year I'll put some orange pollen on her and see what happens.

Aww that one is a cutie. I like fat stuffed skirts. So that flower is like 5 days old and still looks great! Wow.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

It's a pretty one! Do you know the mom & pop?

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

yeah do you know the mom and pop?

Seedling parents are Mountain Magic x Creamsickle. From the same pod I got a nice orange, which I posted a picture of a few weeks ago.

Nice bloom. Would love to see the calyx too. I've had so many this year with fried calyxes that I'm starting to get spooked. LOL! Don't know if it is the weather or if the problem was within. Your bloom looks fluffy and light. I like it, Tussee.

Interesting result from that cross!

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

wow i have a candida x Dr. Seuss

Shirley, here's a picture of the calyx. It is nightime here so of course the flash activated and washed out some of the color.

That looks great. I hope it will do as well in the heat next year. I'm hearing that it will be another year like this was. One more hot one and I might have to go to day lilies and cone flowers all together. Thanks for taking the picture for me. Can't wait to see how colorful it gets.

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

I love this one! In the second picture it looks like a nicely toasted meringue. (sp?)

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I would keep it another year and see what it will do. It is a nice one.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Very pretty, Tussee.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Todays photo shows this flower has developed a deeper peach as well as one white just starting to color. So far all flowers have been consistent in form and color...yeah! :)

Looking good. I like this one much better than the first freckled one. The shape is good. I bet she smells good too. Congrats. I'm taking a break from packing boxes. This is a lot more fun.

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

She is a pretty one, Tussee. Congrats! I hope that she continues to be consistent with her blooms and color.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

She is very pretty

Shirley, the fragrance in my potting shed is overwhelming. Oh, how I love the smell. I'm taking a break also from cleaning my old fireplace frieze. At the rate I'm going, it will be Christmas before I'm finished.

Thank you, Felicia and Doris. The pod this one came from has given me several nice plants. I had so little to work with last year as most of my plants were too small to bloom, but as the saying goes, it only takes one nice seedling to make the effort worthwhile.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

My sincere thanks to all of you. If I knew what I was doing with Brugs. I might be over- the- top dangerous! Such a lucky break with one pod. There are more seedlings with buds from this pod yet to bloom, but I know this will be the best one. I do have the other orange, and it is nice, but it has a bit of regrowing to do. A workmen went through the plant to plug in his generator then got caught up in his cord and fell into the plant. Broke if off below the y. Also knocked out a piece from a leaded glass door the plant was in front of and cut his hand. How could I not feel sorry for him...the plant will regrow.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

So will his hand! LOL Dang.. they have done so much damage to your place! I am not even there, and I'll be glad when they are done and out of there just to know the brugs are safe! He would have more than his hand to worry about if he broke one of my seedlings! Your too kind Tussee! LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

WOW Miss Tussee, a great looker for sure. I love the soft lines! And the color is fantastic.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

Eye-popping... WOW!!!!! What a fantastic seedling.

If you're feeling sorry for the man and not the plant... he must be a "looker"... cuz I'd be hopping upset! ;-)

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

ZZ and Teresa, I was "hopping" upset until I saw the blood dripping off of his hand. Nothing like seeing someone injured to have a complete mental turnabout. The cut was deep and I tried to get him to go for first aid, but he refused. It took a while to stop the bleeding, but I managed and then sterlized the wound, followed by a gauge wrapping and a surgical glove to protect the area. He is one of many Mexican workers here on site and may be an illegal...that could explain the refusal to get proper first aid treatment. I will say his gratitude was warming.

We are progressing with the new rooms but there are so many details to work out everyday. Then, all of my large brugs. spread out over the garden became an issue. Once they were all together on the drive waiting to be sprayed and the soil treated for bugs, I realized my winter setup was inadequate. Now I'm having two large florescent units installed in the potting shed for good lighting, and they were not on the agenda. I created this problem, lol., but fortunately the shed already has heating. So many of my seedlings have not flowered so I must keep them until they do.

Thank you, Kell, and do you still have your city plots for brug. sdlgs.? I have not seen any mention of them lately or the large number of tomato plants like you had last year.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Wow.. that's too bad about his hand.. but wow.. what an awesome bloom!
You must be just beside yourself with joy when your around this bloom. I am so happy for you! When I saw the thumbnail pic even before I clicked on it to enlarge it.. I said "WOW" really loud! Thank you for posting such a beautiful picture for us to ga ga over.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

Yikes! Sorry to hear about his deep wound! I see what you mean about the mental turn-around!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)
