That is an american Holly leaf ~ 2 1/2" this thing was enormous (sp?)

Do you have a picture of its back? It's hard to tell, it's some kind of silk moth caterpillar.
Pretty sure that's a Chinese Holly of some kind, Ilex cornuta 'Burfordii' or similar.
It looks similar to an Imperial Silk Moth, with the silky hair and horns:
