After reading Deb Magnes article on Bradford Pears, I am concerned about the two Cleveland pears that I have planted. We had a Bradford when we lived in Rockville, MD, that started to fall apart and suckered after being cut down at 18 years old. I am hoping to avoid the same thing with the Cleveland pears. Have they been around long enough to show their "true colors" or are they really sturdier than Bradford's? I live on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, HELP anyone!!!!
Cleveland Pears - better built?
Sturdy or not, the real problem with the Callery pears is they are taking over the countryside.
Dear claypa,
I hear you! I promise to not plant anymore!!!! However, do I need to cut down the two I planted last year? They are more than 40 feet from my house.
It won't get any cheaper to remove them as they grow larger.
I'm not sure but i think they are suppose to hold up better than the bradfords. The angle of the branches aren't as steep.
