Medfly again

Medflies were found in Solano County not long ago and it seems they've now been found in Santa Clara County, too. With this and the Light Brown Apple Moth quarantine, it's been a bit of a bummer year here in Northern California.

We have a friend who is going to have to eat all their persimmons. They used to send them to relatives in Hawaii, but now the are stuck with bushels full.

Hmm. Maybe they should cook them or dehydrate them. That would get around that, wouldn't it?

I can't believe the medfly again. OH NO. Not night time sprayings of malathion from the sky. I have a lot of persimmons too but luckily there are a lot of folks who like them. I'll probably have more than a dozen bags full of them this year. It was a banner year for persimmons.

We have a tree full of Fuyus, but I sure miss my Hachiya that we lost when we divided the property. We would set up the dehydrator in the kitchen and dry persimmons every year. WOW! They are incredibly good. We didn't let them get too dry and they were the sweetest things you've ever tasted. When we were living in Martinez many years ago,we found an old homestead with house gone, but fruit trees left and every year we'd go after the persimmons. Apparently someone else knew about the tree also...we'd have to wait until they were ready for picking, but before these other people beat us to them. Sometimes we lost....Please try drying them...really yummy.
