Hey all,
I've found a bunch of these "crop circles" on the inside of pieces of bark from
a dead Monterey Pine. I assume it's some sort of nest ? Each circle is about
an inch in circumference, and all of them are almost exactly the same shape and size.

Are they made of bits of grass or pine needles? Just a guess, but I'm guessing one of the 'grass-carrying wasps', genus Isodontia. Around here they nest in the channels on storm window tracks. Or trees.
See any small, slim, black wasps around? They're easy to see when they carry grass through the air.
Hey claypa,
It looks just like grass, not pine needles. I don't think I've ever
seen any small black wasps carrying grass around.
A few years back we did have a few wasps, but they were
big and had yellow on them and build little mud nests under
the eaves of my house.
Thanks for the response !!
brian
