Prettiest one I have ever raised.............

Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

I don't know the name of this one, but it has got to be one of the prettiest ones that I have ever had. I have never seriously gotten into cultivating a particular flower, as I have primarily been more into "edible" landscape, as my screen name belies.........LOL. But, for some reason, hibiscus have always held a fascination for me. Actually, the very simple ones have tended to be my favourites, but this is the first year in this area I have found some of these more exotically coloured ones available. I guess by simple I mean the "single" flowers, rather than the doubles, etc. This one shown here bloomed at first, but some tiny little "thrip-like" bugs got into the blooms. After a couple doses of natural pyrethrins, Spinosad, and some insecticidal soap, this hibiscus has really come on strong. It is blooming and loaded with healthy looking buds.

I would love to learn how to cultivate, hybridize, and/or exchange some of these incredibly bootiful hibiscus displayed here. Some actually don't look real.........WOW

Welcome to the forum, Tomatomaniac, might have to change your name to hibiscusmaniac, now..lol. You're hooked ... I just wanted to get that stated, you will have more by next spring! ..lol I'm more into the blooms and keeping them coming, than hybridizing, but we have lots of experts - commercial growers, and private gardeners, and tons of enablers to help us here. Your bloom pic is gorgeous! It is more of a double or triple, I think.. but I'm not one of the experts. Is the plant more upright or bushy? Here is a new bloom for me- Nanette Peach, from Matt at Martindale's in FL... She's so adorable, but not a single. The bloom lastest 2 days! (growing inside my house)
