Any Ideas?

This guy shows up every year. The flowers are gorgeous, but not many of them. It's basically a beautiful weed. It could take over everything if I let it, so I'm wondering what it is for sure and just how wild it'd go? As you can tell, it's growing in an area that's not really landscaped yet, and there's lots of other (less pretty) weeds there!
Thanks for any help,
Heather

Pretty flower. I don't know how well this pic shows it's colors, it's pink and white w/ a yellow center.

Oh pooh. I should have guessed it. Another battle on my hands. Thank you so much for the info and the PlantFiles link, I really appreciate that. This came in with some "top soil" we got a couple years ago from a local guy. Guess I'll be cutting it back and digging it out. So glad I asked what it was.

Why can't nice flowers show up this way?

It IS really a nice bloom. I like mine a lot and it remains growing in an area that doesn't bother my garden.

That's the only problem here...it's going to take over if I let it go. Otherwise I might consider keeping it. We had the soil brought in and put behind a retaining wall and it hasn't been landscaped yet. Below the wall is my garden. It's gone down the wall and into the garden a bit. Plus someday we'll actually get our landscaping done behind the wall and I don't want a problem then. If I could for now I'd just let it grow there...it sure looks better than dirt!

Since it is such a nice climber and bloomer, perhaps you could dig it up and grow it in a pot with some tall stakes? I'm growing a few like that which are sitting on my patio. So if seeds drop, I will see them and collect them instead of worrying about them sprouting in my yard somewhere. Just a thought! :-)

Good idea. The foliage itself is actually pretty because it's almost heart shaped...but so thick and full. In my pic you can see the JBs hit it and it has some holes, but even with that damage it's still pretty. I do have some areas that need filled in that I just haven't been able to get much to grow there...too rocky and bad soil, etc. I've been thinking today that I may just move this out there...dig it out as a huge clump (ask DH to do it for me) and just let it go crazy. The edges would get "trimmed" with the mower or weed whacker, which I can't imagine would hurt it at all since RoundUp only seems to knock it back for a bit. My only concern is that it would grow up from any place where a piece of stem would happen to land.

I may just move it like I said here...and put an obelisk in the middle of it all to make it look really "on purpose". At least that way my obelisk will finally get covered with something! :)
