CLOSED: Something is on my plants/flowers that looks like 'spit'.ugh

Frisco, TX

I have recently noticed on my helenium and blanket flower, that alot of the stems have some disgusting wet white substance on them. It literally looks like someone spit on them. I can take a picture but was hoping someone would know this and help me with it.

I have them too, on the same plants. There are a bunch of different "Spittle Bugs", but they're hard to see. They're related to leaf hoppers, and they look pretty similar.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

The larva stage of the spittle bug lives in the spittle which it creates. It is thought to protect them from predators and to keep the larva from drying out. When they reach adulthood, they leave the spittle. I just spray the spittle (and the larva) off with water. They do suck juice from the plants, but they don't seem to do any damage.....
