CLOSED: Mutant Wasp or Fly?

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Spooky. Although, I never saw it on some old bananas, it was definitely around them. I ran to get my camera, and came back and it was gone. Then I saw it again, nearby. After a few photos, it went deeper into the bushes, and I couldn't see it anymore.

I'd love to know what in the heck this is. It kept uncurling it's tail and straightening it out, and then curling it back up. I couldn't tell or remember if it has two or four wings.

Another picture to follow.

It's a Scorpion Fly, Panorpa, not sure which species. The tail curly part is a female ovipositor.

I had a Panorpa communis in my garden eating dead flies stuck to a plant, yes they are very wierd!

Now that you say that -- it was around the rotten bananas ( possibly trying to creep up on a ton of flies that were eating the banana...... hmmmm
