Hope this helps you to know what you had there. You might see more of these. If not this year, look for them to come through your path beginning in Sept next year. They come from the Pacific NW heading to South America to spend Summer there while we have winter here. You could possibly see them coming back through in Spring, (Mar-April).
I rethought it to be a male by looking at pic 3.. The black is coming through the cap pretty sharply..

I am not even close to expert level and I didin't check origin at all. Your bird looks like the Golden Finches we get in out area. The females have little to know yellow while the males have a lot of yellow. Their feathers change as the weather cools and the males look more and more like a female every day.
I want to thank everyone for all your help. I will keep an eye out for them. They are beautiful birds and I would love to see more of them..
