"Serendipity".....flower show in Austin, TX

london England, United Kingdom

Lovely! 10/10 for the speedy entry, well done Karma. Beautiful pansies, and I like the way you have brought the blue flowers down, what are they? You have an elegant touch to all your designs, I love that.
I hope bigbubbles comes back to see what she started!

A big 'Thankyou' for your petite design Karma!

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Thanks Terri. . .quickly done because I have them in the garden. . .snip snip. LOL I didn't bring the flowers down. There are about 3-4 flowers to a stem and they did that on their own. I just had to find the right spot for them. They're called golden dew drop (duranta). Next on my list is my favorite category--lake. Ideas are still brewing.

london England, United Kingdom

I don't know that flower, it looks a bit like a small delphinium. love the snip snip keep snipping!
You are already thinking about the next one, I had better get a move on then. haha!

That's a cutie, Terri. Don't worry, I will never catch up with you. I'm about 10 years younger than you, but have the energy of someone 10 years older than you.

Ohhh Karma! you're so modern! They are great.

Good idea to show 2 different moods, love the glass? background ,it really works. Thankyou for inspiring me, it just shows we don't need to go over the top with flowers to create the look we are trying to achieve.

Which one are you going to attempt next I wonder!

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Thanks Terri. The green is from sweet potato vine. The background is the same as my beach one. Do you remember that one. . .I still get a good laugh when I see that one. Nope, not which one I'm going to attempt, but which one will you attempt next, I wonder.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Karma, I LOVE those. the container is awesome. I did a parallel line today. Took the tiller and eight hours to go straight down my walkway beds. One line was in relief and the other in reverse relief (dirt row on the sidewalk). Sorry I didn't get a pic but a lot of sweat and tears went into it. I don't believe I will be able to get out of bed tomorrow.

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Sorry terri, I thought you asked if it was grass? Silly me. . .yes, it's in a bubble bowl of water. Thanks Traci. . .laughing out loud over your parallels.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Thought you might appreciate it. Don't think it did me a bit of good to till the beds. I went 8" deep. It rained all night and stopped about lunch. The ground is SO HARD and COMPACTED, it is still holding water 5 1/2 hours later. I will have to dig another 4" deep and about 6" wide in this mess just to add better dirt, if I don't want rotten bulbs. If I could get the dirt up in chunks, I could make pots out of them without firing them. It is wild. I though I had run into some old pottery at first. Red clay is bad enough to contend with. Drought ridden for an entire summer is aweful. I hurt so bad today the thought of getting the tiller out makes me want to cry. If we don't get rain tomorrow, I will have to, as the ground will at least be a little softer.

Wonder if I could dig a hole for Teensy and have a swimming pool without all the expensive stuff. She would be terra cotta colored by the time she got out, but we can always give her a bath. lol.

Glad to know I am not the only one you can't understand. Karma. Terri, I had to repeat every word I said when I talked to Karma on the phone.

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

So now I've lost two of my senses. . .hearing and sight. . .lol. Love your analogies. . .too funny. Put a flower on Teensy's head, and you got yourself a real live Anne Geddes.

Well, karma, the temps went from the mid 70's to the mid 60's, so I can't make the Teensy arrangement. Believe me, if it was warm enough, it would be here.

Atleast you don't have to smell on here. You can hang on to one sense!

Hi everyone,
Thought I would try another for the Petites section, using the perfume box as a container which shows it's a mini arrangement.

I must ask.................where in the world do you get all these flowers to play with every day of your life...............and when do you have time to put these fantastic displays out everyday????????

It must be work related in some way............they are just too great!!!!!!

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Gail,
Well as a matter of fact we are on half term this week so I have had time! These heathers came from a friend who collected them from the scotish highlands last week.
I would love to be working with flowers everyday for my job but the thing is I don't.!
The hardest bit is thinking of an idea and working it out in my head exactly how I'm going to attempt it, once I know what I'm doing,it comes together quite quickly.
Most of the flowers I've used recently have come from the supermarket, there's not that much flowering in the garden now we are approaching winter.
Thanks for saying nice comments!

Just getting back to see all your beautiful arrangements! DH was away for a couple of weeks and my computer decided to act out while he was gone. I promise to get back to share some of my arranging soon, but am entertaining a fellow DGer and her husband this weekend! Can't wait for them to get in to town. We're going to hit some nurseries, eat some great food, and drink a little wine.
Will certainly share with my garden club that you've enjoyed their entries in the flower show. Thanks again Terri for the help in deciding what to serve our British guests. I think I've finally recovered from a whirlwind two weeks of garden club related activities.

Hi Bigbubbles , nice of you to come and have a look at our arrangements, we are enjoyng your ideas and themes. It sounds like you need a rest, have a lovely weekend. Can't wait to see your creations!

Bigbubbles

I don't think I have even thanked you for your great effort at taking pictures of the flower show...............ideas and more ideas floating around in everyone's head.....................

Terriculture.................you need to give some serious thought to becoming a floral designer.................what talent!!!!!!!!

london England, United Kingdom

Thanks Gessiegal,
What do you suggest I do? Some others on the Artisans forum have said the same, I am going to start puttting a portfolio together, but I'm not sure which arrangements I should use.
Any ideas or suggestions from anyone would be much appreciated!

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Gail, I have no idea why she is not a full time floral designer! Or better yet, have her own flower shop. She's great with the customers in the cafe.

Terri, do you need help deciding which arrangements to put together? I can dmail you all my favorite ones from beginning to end. . .when time permits. Or do you want to start a thread so we can vote? Or just put all of your arrangements in there! They're all pretty stunning!

london England, United Kingdom

Karma, Thankyou, I would love help choosing which ones to put in my portfolio, also how many? I've no idea, I was thinking maybe 20.
You and Gessiegail inspired me to open a florists here! I'm sure it will be fun and I hope to see you in there!

terriculture..........being a 65 year old woman who has learned more from my failures than my successes..............running a business is a totally different talent than what you do. You may have the business acumen but I didn't.............I had the taste for a retail shop to buy but couldn't seem to keep a handle on the finances..............

That is a big undertaking to start with.................as talented as you are with floral arranging, do you have a friend or confidant that is business oriented? Few people have both the creative juices and the business sense, but you may have both..............

I encourage you either way to make something happen for yourself in the way of floral design............perhaps you could get your portfolio together and take it to an outstanding established business and get a job first...................then you learn all the ins and outs that you have to know with bigger picture of a total business.

On the other hand, if you can afford to do it another way ............here is a suggestion..........start small time and make yourself needed with good customers who depend on you..........then you never have to expose all your good ideas to an established floral business........for them to repeat.....................i did that once with container gardens and it was quite successful.......I went to all the real estate agents in Houston.........the realtors, in turn, ordered beautiful containers of plants to be given to their customers..........

just a few ideas.............
i think it is great that you are seriously considering this...............

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Gessisgal, Thankyou for your advise, it's great to read your experiences. I'm just going to concentrate on doing my arrangements and put the portfolio together, that seems to be the first step.
.
I'm enjoying myself here on this forum with so many friendly people to chat to about flowers it's fabulous.
The FLOWERPOT cafe has become a nice little hang out and with Traci introducing olde Belle the florists, I hope to work there helping out when she gets busy!

Oh I'm the creative one, I don't know much about buisiness!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have always had 'one more good idea' but hate to deal with finances...........I love 'magic' and prefer not to live in 'reality'...........that's a bummer to deal with money...........

london England, United Kingdom

i would love to see a magical arrangement!
