AL has seen my Aster, but I haven't shown Dawn yet.
I would love to see your....asters
OMG Al has seen your aster and I am still waiting in the wings?? Victor I am so disappointed that I haven't seen your aster as of yet!!! I have always felt like something was going on between the two of you that you wouldn't share with the rest of us!!!
LOL
What's wrong with an alternative(leafing) lifestyle?
are joints involved when showing people your aster?
I just found out on another Forum that Al is Yin to someone else's Yang so I guess I'll show my Aster someone else.
Hey nothing at all!! I was just hoping I might have the leading edge!! LOL I guess that goes to you Al LOL
I am at a loss now!! All I wanted to see was asters!!! You know what? I am desparate and I don't care who's aster I see! LOL
my aster is in really sad shape. this year it just looks terrible. i keep working on it, but it doesn't seem to help. i have tried to avoid showing it to anyone. i may just have to give up.
Maybe more sun???
Yeah I have heard of aster embarrassment before - I think Vic suffers from that - that would be why we haven't seen his aster yet! Oh well...
Honestly sorry I am the wrong person to ask.

More sun and less water, amethystsm. They can take dry conditions quite well.
After this conversation, I'm not sure I want to show my aster, but I'll only show it to Dawn. Nobody else look, OK? 'Wood's Pink'
I also have 'Wood's Purple' behind the pink, but I should have dug it out and moved it long ago. It's smaller and doesn't get enough sun. It has shrunk to almost nothing.
Those are very pretty grampapa! Thanks for showing me your aster. They certainly do have stunning colour to them. I am going to have to get some for next year.
Check out your nurseries NOW, Dawn. You should get bargain prices at this time!
I think Amy was joking around - so was I in my response!
If you're not joking, Victor, we know you're sick like poor Dave47 was for a long spell (judging by the thread) earlier this year.
I'm at my most serious when I'm joking.
It may be too late to take you seriously on some threads, Victor. We enjoy your humor and your lack of pity parties and whining.
I'll start a pity and whine thread. With sound.
Oh great. Let me know so I can avoid it: we get two newspapers to keep me aware of misery and heartache.
Then how about a misery and heartache thread? Only garden related though.
That's fine!
Shall we review our invasives?
I'll start with my kids.
Only if they're in the garden, right? You did qualify your thread as being "only garden related", remember?
They sometimes are. I guess that would be garden pests.
NO DUMP!
Hahahaha pirl!
love everyone's asters! and the laughs too!
nice asters everyone!
i have aster envy.
i seriously do have a really disappointing aster this year - as in, the one in the garden. (The other one has been disappointing for several years now.)
The leaves are green, but all the blooms have turned brown. For a while, big pieces of the plant were practically coming off in my hand. I have cut off much of the back part, which had turned blackish, and trimmed around the edges, hoping some of the buds would produce flowers, but nope.
But then, yesterday i saw one on the clearance rack at Home Depot that looked like that too.
Thoughts? i know there are lots of wise-asters on this forum...

Are they in full sun? They really do need it. Any signs of disease? They are usually pretty resistant.
Full sun. It bloomed at first, then started getting sadder, now all the blooms are little brown wads (cause there are just too many even for a compulsive dead-header like me), and there are buds, but i haven't seen any open in weeks.
Should i just cut it back? It is very difficult to cut the dead blooms off w/o getting the buds too, they are very close.
For me asters rebloom so little that I don't deadhead them. It sounds like yours are done flowering then? I have a few that are finished now.
so i can cut it back? there are buds, but the whole thing is just kinda ugly looking now.
I'd cut it back. When anything looks ugly it's a pain to view it.
Oh - then some people are in for a cutting.
