I would love to see your....asters

(Zone 4a)

Come on and post away those beautiful aster photo's. I think I may plant some so help me decide pleeeeease....

Just have one. It's my first aster, ever - Purple Dome, New England Aster Eleanor

That has to be one of my favourite colours! Your plant is doing just beautifully grammyphoeb.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Thanks Dawn but you should see the bottom - I think it's powdery mildew but as long as it produces on top like that I don't care. You can do wonders with a camera and leave that part out and just photograph the good part!! I think next year I will get some more asters cause they sure do provide color for the autumn!! Eleanor

(Zone 4a)

I was thinking of colour for the fall too. My gardens are pretty drab right now. However that is due to cutting and moving my stuff around about a month ago. But those purple flowers are stunning - I like the pink asters too....

You ARE good with that camera!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'll have to take a few shots of mine. Love the thread title, Dawn. Though you were asking to see my tush!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Purple or blue, Victor?

Here's an old one of our asters:

My cultivated asters finally got crowded out by phlox. But we have so many wild asters blooming all around here that I never replaced them. Here is a shot of the wild ones I took last week that I am really happy about.

Beautiful asters and great photo with that lime green in the background.

(Zone 4a)

Hey I have another question...I may not have time this year to go and get some. However I was wondering are they easy to plant from seed? Could I just plant some seeds outdoors in the spring and will they come up nicely for the fall or will they not bloom the first year?? Curious....cause that might be a much easier way for me.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I've never tried them from seed, Dawn, but why not give it a try? Make sure they're perennial and not annual.

(Zone 4a)

Doh!!!! I thought for sure you would know the answer LOL You surprised me!!!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

It is easy to collect the seeds - real puffy though. Some of the seeds must be viable because I see the wild ones seed all over.

(Zone 4a)

Ha Victor I was talking about your tush but everyone else misunderstood I guess LOL

Oh well the flowers are nice too as I am sure everyone's tush is as well hehehe.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not as cute as mine though!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

These young, firm, tight bodies get me sick!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

But in working to keep the tight, firm body, the joints get worn down! Can't win.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

You and your joints. I thought some of your problems were chronic.

**nominating reply for wittiest of year**

(Zone 4a)

Oh sure pirl!! That is why you keep wanting the RCMP to go and visit you. Hmmmmm.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Most of my joints are chronic. Had them all my life.

(Zone 4a)

Your tush too.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, we're kind of attached.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Dawn - I got out and took pics of my best looking asters today, the rest are a little past prime.

You've got a nice set of asters, Al. I love your blue ones!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

had to correct some spelling there.

Thanks Pirl. Most of the pink ones are winding down now.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I really like October Skies Al. Is that color accurate?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

It really is. Like a dark powder blue maybe.

I have a white one - Snow Flurry, but it's getting crowded out and only had a few flowers.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

New England Aster...yes they are in full bloom now.

Real nice. Do the yellow parts fall off to leave the dark center?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Nice WC. I saw some pink ones growing wild the other day - less common than the purple I think.

Victor - Yes the new ones are yellow and the older brown centered.
