Mark the Date - Green Elephant Plant Swap

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

It'd be nice to meet up once we're there, or maybe to meet for coffee or meet up at the site beforehand . . .

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Pixy - you need to have a Huckleberry Hat, sort of in the same vein as a cheesehead from WI! Or a sconehead! (quickly ducking from flying rolling pin..)

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Maybe we could get a cheesehead and paint it sort of beige and stick purple nerfs into the cheese "holes" with hot glue......

(Ducking behind Katye......)

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

You guys are baaaaaaad . . . But I love it - Huckleberry Scone Head . . .

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

We could use some pale yellow felt on the top as a "pat of butter!"

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Maybe we should all plan on getting there between 9:15 and 9:30 and then we can all park next to each other and visit before the event. I will be bringing banana crunch muffins to share. Yummy! I have attached a picture of my truck so you know what Pixy and I will be driving in (my 18 year old niece is in the picture, I let her drive my truck so of course she needed a pic of it to put on her My Space page!)

Well, if Pixy wears her sconehead, I'm sure we'll be able to find you.......(Felt for butter-good idea! ;) )

I'll be driving either an Escape or an Explorer. Depends on how big the pile is.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I hope you all have fun, the numbers are in and I lost. Its been a very sad week at work, one manager on vac. and the other one quitting, that only leaves 2 of us to take it on alone. (somebody just shoot me)

Some body PLEASE take some pics for Laurie and I. at least we can be the fly on someones shoulder.
And I will wait til spring (I hope)
Mary

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Mary - so sorry that you've been run ragged at work. And I'll have to check out the vote and see who the winners are. Whether you win or lose, your pictures were certainly fantastic and I'm glad you entered them.

I'll try to remember to take my camera (though it's nowhere near as nice as everybody else's, it sounds like). Between us, we ought to be able to get a group picture.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Mary,
I will take my camera and get lots of pics for you and Laurie.

Ah, no promises about the scones. It depends on if I have time to pick more huckleberries and clean them, etc. I'll do my best. People don't generally request my cooking so me ego is in a bit of a bind here! LOL!

Coco, the park allee is yours if you want it. I've dmailed you. I've been working nonstop this week, so have had hardly any time to do garden stuff in this glorious weather. I have today off and it's cold outside!

Rachel, do you have a photo of the vine we saw at Savageplants that had the little purple seedpods? I cannot remember its name and hope you have a photo of the name.

If I have agreed to bring you something at the swap, will you please post or dmail me, everyone? I am thinking that I need to have everything organized and am worried I will miss someone that I've promised something specific. So far I know I am bringing the following:

Coco is getting the Park Allee Mallow and is bringing me cuttings from Salvia 'hot lips'
Jburesh is getting a cherry seedling if I have one small enough to bring
Grrnthumb, am I not bringing you something?
Someone wanted seeds from the purple poppy

anyone else? Help me out!

Marysville, WA(Zone 8a)

Yeah Pixy, we have a whole bunch. :) I'll send you a copy of the dmail where we discussed it.
I get so many trades, and my memory is soooo bad, that I started an Excel spread sheet to keep track of them all. I have one column for my trader's screen name, One column for their real name if I know it, One for what I'm bringing them, and One for what I'm receiving. I've gotten so bad that I had to start of policy of not hitting the send button on a post that promises a trade until I FIRST write it down.
I'd forget my own name if didn't have my wallet so I can look it up. Now I can't even remember what I was talking about. I'm gonna go take a nap.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Pixy,
You were giving me some Purple Poppy seeds. Don't worry I'll remind you when I get there :0) I will look for the pic, just a second.

Rachel, I have the seeds for you. I thought I promised some to someone else, too. I have plenty. Also have a beauty bush for you.

Go to Lowes!! They are having a clearance on all plants. I got gallon sized heucheras today for 3$. Lots of other things there too. The lady at our lowes was wanting to make deals. If I hesitated on buying something she marked it down even more. They have the bouganvilla 'pink ice' or something like that, bit 2 gallon pots for 5$. I passed. I don't need another baby to overwinter. But it was hard.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Tom - You're trading is so extensive that you've started setting policies for your own actions.? Hmmmmm . . . there's a sign of something. :-) Good for you for sticking to it.

Kathy

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Pixy - I'd like some of your caryopteris if you have any left. And I have bergenia that I'll divide before I come so I can give you one. I'm not 100% sure that it's the Bergenia cordifolia 'purpurea' on your list, but it does look much the same.

Kathy

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Hi Pixy, I asked for some of the purple poppy seeds, too, but I don't think you promised them yet. This thread is getting long enough that it's becoming a little challenging finding the trade posts, or the links to the trade lists listed on GW. Should we start a new thread that just has tradelists and confirmed trades in them? (No, I haven't finished my list yet. That's what tomorrow and Sunday are for.....nice weather, too, I hope!)

Katie59, the caryopteris is yours. I have about 2-3 of them. In terms of the bergenia, I have plenty of the green kind. The ones I want have reddish purple leaves. Is that what you have?

A thread for confirmed trades might be good. I'm not very handy with Excel. All those little 'cells', all those little lines, the idea of formulas. By brain withers! I'm just writing everything down on an old fashioned note pad. My husband, the computer programmer, just looks at me and sighs. I don't listen, though.

Susybell, I have plenty of seeds. I'll put your name on some.

Hmmm. Some of the leaves are reddish-purple, but mostly green. I'll look again tomorrow. I just love these, and they do so well here.

I'm somewhere between you and your husband - I know some, but not enough to get me to use all the software as tools. Keep thinking I should try to set up a website to share pictures, but haven't done it yet. Don't have a DH, so I "sigh" at myself. LOL

Thanks, Pixylissa!!

K

Rachel, do you have any of the Crocosmia 'flamethrower' left?

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Pix,
I was sure that I had taken a picture of it. I must not have, it is nowhere to be found. Did Murmur take a picture of it (maybe I had put my camera away at that point?) I remember she had hers with her at Savage. Here is an overall shot that I took of that area. Maybe you could call them and ask what it is. I don't remember it having a tag on it. There number is 360-297-8711 (had the business card on my desk.)

There is writing (I think yours) in my notebook that I had with me that day it says: Amelanchier>Serviceberry-

Pix,
I will bring you some Crocosmia "Flamethrower." You are tempting me with Lowes!!!!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

And me too? Do you have enough Flamethrower, RachieR?

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Katie,
I sure do! Your on the list :0)

Thanks, Rachel. I can't imagine why I wrote that in your notebook. Serviceberry is a type of tree. I'll have to google to see if there is a vine.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Pix,
I think it's your handwriting?! Who knows it could be Heidi from Dragonfly, I probably saw a plant and asked her to write it in my notebook because I was so overwhelmed from all the excitement!

I remember! It was the beautiful tree at Dragonfly that had such a pretty fall color. I asked Heidi what it was and that's the name of it. Ah... great minds think alike.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Yes they do!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I just found this wanta help, are you ?

When hurricane katrina came through lots of people lost their gardens. Some were Dgers and the got lots of help getting them established again. In fact, I just did a trade this week with a lady from Mississippi to whom I sent a bunch of things after Katrina. Seems like there could be a thread where people could post that they lost things and other people could pair up with them. It's one of the benefits of a community like DG.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

I've been reading that thread and waiting to see what happens and how to help out. Sounds like in some cases it may take a while. I saw your post Tilly-I'm so sorry for what you went through so many years ago.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I want to thank all of you, for the support on the fires.

Tilly, I can see why it would have a special meaning to you to help those who have been impacted by the fires. It's good of you to call our attention to that thread.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

So the plant exchange is next Saturday. How 'bout we all meet at the Starbuck's on Avondale Road (it's what highway I-520 turns into and is only 4 mins away, according to Google, from the church) at 9:00? That'll give us a chance to meet and get some coffee to get going. Then it's a straight shot on NE 116th to the church.

Holy Cross Church
11526 - 162nd Ave NE

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

I think I'll park at the church & walk to SB's. Don't want to lose my spot, if I get one, that is....
I have a feeling that this event will take on a life of its own, and much earlier than I thought.

Katye, if you've done this before, do you recommend that we get there early? I know that if you go to a regular swap meet it pays to get there early. People will start trading as soon as they get there, I'm sure.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

How big is the parking lot?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

I just added the thread for the trades and tradelists that we talked about.

Here's the link: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/785012/

Oh, and Pixy-thanks so much for saving some poppy seeds for me! (Sorry, I totally missed your saying you'd save me some until now-in one eye and out the other, so to speak??)

Great! I'm going there right now to post the trades I have down. Oh yes, in one eye and out the other for sure! I do relate to that!
