CLOSED: Caterpillars in the Pacific Northwest

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

So I have lots of caterpillars, about 2.5 inches in length. They are orange with a black band around the middle. Nice and fuzzy. Don't have a picture, but does anybody recognize them from the description?

Katie, is the middle black or orange? There's a Wooly Bear cat that has an orange middle....just want to verify.

Hey, flygirl. Thanks!! I think this is what they are. I live on an acre, much of which has PNW naturals, and that's where I'm seeing them. Glad to know that I can consider them "friends."

I would call them friends too!

Would you say the band is thin or thick? Maybe you can see what your winter will be like...

Without having a sense of a normal band, I'd say the band was thick. Farmer's Almanac says we'll have a warm winter with extra rain. But a friend of mine today said she heard that we'll have "lots of snow". Not sure which is worse. LOL

Ohhhhh. I just read your link. Maybe the caterpillar was reading the Farmer's Almanac . . . or vice versa. Maybe the FA gets their information from the caterpillars. Interesting.

Haha, well, I hope it's not too bad....still in the 90's here...would love some cool weather!

Yeah, I can't believe that you guys are having such heat and needing water so badly while we are getting soaked!! We've had over ten times the average normal amount of rainfall so far in October. Crazy. Hope you get some water soon.
