Just thought this was gorgeous!

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9b)

Couldn't take my eyes from it this morning....luckily it was a nice overcast morning and I could get a good pic of it. So hard to get a good pic when that AZ sun is out lol

Hi,
Is that 'Rose Silk'? I got some seeds from EmmaGrace a couple of years ago and it looks pretty much like yours.

Mine would be chocolate. There's a whole thread on here somewhere discussing the differences between the two. Even as "chocolate", this particular plant sems to have some very nice qualities that I would like to keep going.

They favor Yuzuuki(spelling?). The Japanese names give me trouble until I memorize them and that takes time.

To me Yuzuuki and also your flower looks just like Heian No Akathuki exept it is chocolate. It also favors a type of Akatsuki in chocolate. So I feel pretty accurate to say your flower is a large flowered chocolate.

Some of the Yuzuuki right out of the commercial packet throw wider white picotee than this picture shows. Some of the flowers show increase of the white on the vine with each flower. Karen

BTW, That picture does make the flower look lighter and rosier than it was in person. These are definitely very brown or choclolate in color and not at all rose or mauve. Karen

One more showing some of the increased white. The average flower size was 5 inches but there was a range from 4 to 6 just like the advertisement for the seeds said. Karen

Thanks for the comments. I will try to find the other thread discussing the differences between chocolate and rose MG. The one I have makes very large flowers, but a lot of them are so full they look weird. Also, they tear very easily, and need deadheaded to look good. Very pretty nevertheless with the variegated japanese-type foliage.

Azreno. . .

Wow!

Unbelievable. . .
If you get enough seeds to share, please count me in.

I grew an interesting 'Brown Silk' this year for the first time. Unfortunantly it got tangled up with other vines as I had to be away for a period of time. I did manage to get a couple or so seeds and want to grow it out again next year. PURE SOLID with no picotee edge. A real keeper.

Actually, I grew several types of Rose Silks/Chocolate Silks this year . . . and even Rose Silk Blizzard that is incredible!

Thanks Emma :) I grew one like that last year, came from the same batch of seeds, funny the variataion you can get from these "chocolates".

Sadly this darn thing is not setting seed yet, it's a small vine :( If it doesn't soon I may lose it. We're pegged to have a warmer than normal winter though so we'll see!
