Would like opinions on some Oriental lilies

Stafford Springs, CT

I'd like to buy some Oriental lilies for my favorite aunt. I've only grown a few so far, and was wondering which kind are most dependable. I know she'll love these carefree beautiful flowers.
Thanks lots

Stargazer, Starfighter & Sorbonne come to mind. I think, for the most part, all oriental lilies like similar growing conditions, more acidic soils and not scorching sun. I'd pick whatever you are drawn to, and buy that.
Have fun shopping for that nice gift.

Reeb33, sorry you just missed the lily co-op.. The stargers there we going for just over a dollar a bulb and the orientpets under $1.37 a bulb.. Sorry you miss that deal. Keep an eye on the co-op forum for more..

And, I like both oriental and orientpets. I just like pretty and FRAGRANT flowers. :)

You can edit and correct it, LOL - I do that all the time...my fingers and brain are not always coordinated. I don't think anyone here will hold it against you!

I have to agree that Sorbonne is close to bullet proof. I got it as a substitute for some lilies that failed, from a company that said that it was easy to grow. But it's also lovely. No matter what the conditions - intense heat, late frosts, neglect (failure to water for weeks!) - it looks like this, and has every year for five years.

Casa Blanca is always a winner--big blooms, highly scented & tall.

Dizzy is also a favorite of mine. The colors are brilliant & stand out well in the garden. Plus, I have a daughter named Lizzie, so this one is planted in her honor: "Dizzy Miss Lizzie" of Beatles fame?

Donna,

Those are really pretty. I wasn't familiar with the Sorbonne, but I going to investigate them for my garden now. I might intermingle them with the casablancas

Pennefeather,

That should be a gorgeous combination. I have both, but not together - I may have to change that! But seriously, Sorbonne is absolutely the most consistent - and consistently spectacular - lily in my yard.

Donna.

Donna & Magnolialover,

I just checked plant files to get some more information on Sorbonne. You two definitely need to submit your pictures, and your growing information. There are only two entries, and they don't provide a full picture.

Pennefeather,

A picture has already been submitted:

Here is another link in Dave. It is misclassified as an Asiatic hybrid. I will write in and have it corrected. It's an Oriental hybrid.
