The Annual Photo Contest has been announced

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

We have each shown such wonderful photos to each other this season. Who among us is going to enter the photo contest that 'da Dave' just announced? And what photos will you be entering?

No, not here, uh uh, grrrr, they all got cooked with the computer. Anyone have an idea on Have a Skunk Trap? 1 dog got it again.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I'll enter some I'm sure. I always take quite a beating and it does peeve me that people who don't even grow the plants that have pics of beat on me, but I have some pics of plants that aren't mine to try instead.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Is there a specific size requested - 800 x 600? Also, can the photo have been taken in previous years (though never entered in any DG contest)??

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I think it's yes and yes.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks and thanks.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I'm sure there will be a picture of Wallingford in the contest, somehow. . .
I

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

It's nice to hear that our group will be so well represented!!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Oh, I'll enter. I enjoy going back thru my photos and picking out what I think is the best. But there are so many top notch photographers here at DG that I don't expect to even come close to winning. It's fun anyway. I like the voting because the pics are all so good.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I think the voting will be awfully hard, especially if we recognize the photographer.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sure will - especially when I recognize myself!!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I'll have to go through and redo mine with out the Bigcity(patent pending) on them.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oops! Forgot that.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm just going to re-do some of the original photos. I won't be entering many, though. I have seen some of everyone's work, so the competition will be top-notch!!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I will say that some categories have so many great pics of the same subject they kind on cancel each other out.

You really need something unique - like this.

Or not. (Nice car - is that yours?)

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I'm not at work right now ;)~

You really need to remember a take a million pics - of course I have a photo of my car - Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

Al:
You never fail to make me giggle!!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I hope you're entering that one in the contest Al - it's beyond category!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I actually have gotten some replies on that one. I think that's misc. - my best subject ;)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Misc. are probably the best photos! They should have a second calender with only Misc. shots.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Al, did you grow that tetherball yourself or is it in somebody else's garden?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Since we can't enter any photos previously entered on a DG photo contest I have a loser for you:

Nice loser!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks. Here's another one:

Simply awful!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

That's what the judges thought, too!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Jan - that's in a bar's garden.
I do like the first pic Pirl, I gave my advice on common subjects already.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I went through the misc section to see what was in there, always photos that fit into other categories. Forgot I had this one in there

far out man!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

It can have nothing to do with gardening at all though, right?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Oh sure.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

There was a question about the Misc. category on the contest thread and I found it interesting: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=4048365

Wild photo, Al! My daughter was over on Tuesday and liked all the dahlias but nearly swooned over Wildwood Marie. Thought you'd like to know.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I know that Pirl - it just doesn't help your photo to be judged in the wrong category.

Swooning daughters you say. Sounds like a paperback novel.
WM's had a rough year here - only a couple flowers.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Not many flowers for WM but each one is so perfect and they last so long!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Do you have that one Pirl?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

WM? Yes!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Needless to say on my day off here I went out and took 70 pics.
Ever see carp?

Thumbnail by bigcityal
Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I had Koi, which are just colorful carp. Last Winter did them all in.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Were they supposed to make it outside during the winter?

This is the dam across the street from the carp. Doesn't show all the bric a brac along it by the person living in the old locktenders house very well. This is what happens when you don't have a garden.

Yeah - too much time on his hands. Yes, the koi can survive and did survive colder Winters as younger fish. Maybe the sudden change in temps - we went from 60's to 20's abruptly. I keep a heater to maintain a hole in the ice but somehow there was a lack of oxygen. I had 13 of them and they were about 12 - 16 inches.
