how to harvest seeds?

East Aurora, NY(Zone 5a)

My MGs finally GREW & bloomed this year!!! YAY!!! If anyone remembers, I posted earlier this year about my lack of growth last year. I figured it was my fault; possibly over watering. The problem is that my soil is lacking nitrogen. I fertilized and my MGs grew. I'm thinking of putting in a cover crop to add nitrogen and adding compost of course. So I'd like to save some of my seed. At what point do I harvest them? I know they probably cross pollinated, but I may have interesting crosses and I'd like to save them anyway. Thanks!

The time to pull the seeds is when the seed pods turn brown and paper lake. just keep an eye on them (I check mine almost daily-LOL) because you will go out there one day and there will be none brown, and the next several will be brown

Here is a great photo

that site is great for many common seeds :o)
Hope this helps

When the seedpod turns brown you will get something that looks like the attached photo

Hope that helps...

Great pictures!! This will help a great deal. I leave for work when its dark and hopefully I'll get home before dark tomorrow. My neighbors will probably think I'm nuts if I go out there at night with a flash light. (A couple of days ago I was gardening in the dark.) When my mgs finally started blooming (late in the season due to my poor soil), they were opening after I Ieft for work and closing before I got home! Boo hoo! Thanks everyone!
