My lilac has a lot of (what I think is) powdery mildew. We have had quite a drought this year but have not watered it much. Is that the probleml?
Lilac mildew?
Powdery mildew is common on lilacs and usually it is easily tolerated by the shrub. Yes, it can be worse on stressed plants, but I wouldn't worry about it this late in the season anyway.
Powdery mildew is always on the upper surface of the leaves, and looks like a calcium residue from water or white powder, but it doesn't blow off or rub off. If your talking about common lilacs or french lilacs, you'd be hardpressed to find one that was not infected. It just a fact of lilac life.
thanks so much.
