Spirals

I had no idea that there were different types of spirals. So which category do mg's fit in? Brugs and dats are Fermat spirals.

X, dunno. but, here's a great resource too great not to share here:

http://xahlee.org/SpecialPlaneCurves_dir/EquiangularSpiral_dir/equiangularSpiral.html

Evidently, we could consider the rotation of the vine around a central axis (circumnutation - http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=1317898 ) to be a spiral as well as the spiral made by the unfurling flowers. Wonder if other spirals are involved in other developmental aspects of MGs and whether they're same or different spirals?

There might be an answer somewhere in here: http://www.eric.ed.gov/ERICWebPortal/Home.portal?_nfpb=true&ERICExtSearch_SearchValue_0=EJ074932&ERICExtSearch_SearchType_0=eric_accno&_pageLabel=RecordDetails&accno=EJ775019&_nfls=false&objectId=0900019b801d3acd

X, I'm supposed to be doing something else - will be back later

I remember a passage from an old english botanical text...saying MGs twine "contrary to all things". I had to think about this for a moment and then decided that they must be trying to say they twine in a counter-clockwise direction (contrary to the ways of men). I have observed that most of them do naturally twine counter clockwise, but I can make them twine clockwise by manipulating them.

The MG flowerbuds seem to be a combination of the Fermats and logarithmic and/or the Archemedian...

Each of the Primary rib tips can be considered as a starting point in parts of the 'complex' multi-starting point spiral...

X - Is it written in stone someplace that Brugs and Datura are Archemedian(?)...

Just wondering...
