Blah, school begins tomorrow. I go to the upper level. Only good thing is that the school is 0,5 km from us :-)
I hate maths, PE, art, handicraft, and music. urgghh. When does the school start where you live?
School...
Hi Evert. My kids start back on the 27th. I home schooled last year. Although I loved it and the kids did too, we are sending them to a new school this year (which was actually the first one they went to). I just couldn't manage to get enough done at home. I have four little ones that are turning 2,4,6 and 8 over the next couple of weeks and I have a baby due in January. This sure is a busy place! Try to find something you like about each subject and it will make them go by easier. :)
i remember school, went there once, didnt like it tho, lol, couldnt spell then cant now, so it wasnt worth the days stuck in a class being bored to death about some git whos been dead four hundred years.
Math can help you figure out how many plants you can fit in a bed at the proper spacing and how may cubic ft. or meters if soil you need to fill a raised bed...so it does have some fun uses...I don't know what handicrafts they teach but maybe you can teach them about art in photography! Music, well that is something I think should be optional to those who have an appreciation for it. And PE can at least let you discover what sports and types of excercise you hate the most! I son't blame you though, I always hated seeing summer vacation end. I prefered reading for pleasure over assigned reading and never understood why classes were not geared more to future goals of the students. Have a good year though and enjoy your time with friends.
School starts for my kids on September 5th. I have one who is your age, Evert, and one who is 11.
I'm curious, Evert, do you know what you want to do when school is over? Do you want to go on to college? Do you want to work in horticulture?
The kids around here started school on August the 9th.

Summer holidays for the kids is six weeks here in the UK, starts in Late July till early September. and they get about another six or seven weeks of through the year too.
if you're interested in gardening you should take an interest in art, just think creating intersting garden designs, landscaping and creating beautiful beds all have their place in art, monet for one used to paint his gardens.. it helps to have an idea about colour theory too.. it was my favourite subject at school, and one i'm thinking of going back into.
Zany and Lil said it best Evert,
You will be amazed at how much your education will come to play in your life from here on in. I used to hate science class, but now it comes into play so much in my life.
Math comes in handy always, we never had computers, everything was done on paper or in your head. Zany is absolutely right about how it will come in handy when plotting or planning gardens. Art also comes into play when designing ! So, if you look at it for what it is...
a learning experience, maybe it wont be so bad. What you need to figure out to help with the 'boring' stuff, is how what your learning now, may help you in another avenue in your life...makes learning a whole lot more interesting !
Not to mention that your brains will blow someone away another day ! Ego tripping is ALWAYS a good thing :-)
Hi Evert,
Good luck in school!! I think you have received enough great advice already, but i have to add my two cents anyway.
Stick to art!! I had a great love of Nature when I was younger, and my 6 years in Art schools really helped me develop a sense of design and color.I hated Math though,so I always have a spacing problem in my garden lol!
Hey Trish,I don't think you are dating yourself..my kids hate to clean their slates when they bring them home, and I just had to buy a new fountain pen(with ink cartridges now) for my son.He somehow lost the one the school gave him last year, and they really expect kids to hold on to these pens for the 9 years of school.
My Children just started Monday after the 6(it was 5)week summer break. This year Summer lasted for more than just a day,so it was a real vacation!!
evert those are my favorite subjects!! like all the gals and guys who said it before me, just find something about it that you like and focus on that. it makes it much easier to handle. still in school. although i just found out rather sadly that i'm due for vacation a month before i expected. sounds great until you think about the 6 weeks worth of work i need to do in 2 weeks. college here starts late though, end of september. can't wait though. my classes fill absolutely none of my pre-requisites, which means they'll be fun. viruses and dirt!!!
Alan!! How can your country's history be boring?? I'm retired and going to University to study early British history. It's great!
So, I'm back here again.. Now I've been one week and one day in school :-) We have candy bar and drink automate there...
Ah Evert my man! "Those who cannot remember history are condemned to repeat it" said George Santayana. You can't remember it if you don't learn it in the first place.
Of course Mark Twain did point out that "I never let my schooling interfere with my education".
Study hard, have fun and happy gardening.
Well, if candy bars and soda don't get you through the day, nothing will! ;o) How goes it? I like your website, by the way.
:-) Thanks buddies :-) I've learned just something, in maths :-) And I got over the 'cane' in high jump.. Kewl. Hmm.. I thought to ask what do you think about Finland? One thing what we hate is that someone foreigner says that Finland belonged to Soviet Union. We did not. It would be a shame.. (Sorry East Europeans :-)
We had our war, we did fight, but russians won. They took us Karelia. Now if they would give it us back we woudl not like it. There is so many poor people and all is like in hell. I visited in Viipuri (old Finnish city nowadays in Russia) and it wasn't very nice city at all.
OK no more history now, have a nice day! :-)
Evert, my favorite part of school was always the snack machines! :)
:)
