CLOSED: Rabid Wolf Spider?

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

This not so loverly creature is living outside my front door. Is it a rabid wolf spider or some other variety of wolf spider?

Thanks,
Juanita

I don't know what kind it is...but all spiders look rabid to me. LOL : )

Looks like one of the many Wolf Spiders.

Typically their webs are non-sticky and are used as a hiding place or ambush cover. That debris scattered on the web might be the remains of a beetle's wing cover (called an Elytron)...good Scrabble word....looks made-up

Hubby says wolf spider, a friend.

I don't know - the "Rabid Wolf Spider" / Rabidosa rabida looks darker to me... maybe R. hentzi.
If you can get more pics, maybe we can pin it down. That webbing, is it up off the ground? How big is it?

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Yes the webbing is in the corner of my sidelite about 14 inches up from the porch. The debris is actually flakes of stain from the door frame that I need to redo this winter. :0) The spider is gone this morning, but the egg sac still remains. He did seem really dark to me.

Oh well, thanks for the input.

Juanita
