just bumping this up....c'mon people, where's the enthusiasm?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Sorry Kim - I've been awol for a few days and not checking the Texas forum. Perhaps use the old link and a hyperlink to here would get those who've been watching the old thread. There were quite a few folks at that thread.

I'll be there! I'll check in on the other threads early in the week when I have a bit more time. Thanks again, Kim!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

If this thread is for headcount, there will be 4 of us! Maybe, 5!
If this thread is for food, yes, we will bring 4 different things!
If this thread is for trades, yes, we will be trading!
Did I cover everything?
Just know, I wouldn't miss it for the world!!

And thank you for all YOU have done for this RU, again!!!
:~)

San Antonio, TX

Posted my list of trades on the other post so Im posting my head to be counted in this one. It's the first time my head will be at a RU....im nervous and excited.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Does anyone have an idea of what we could do for food? There are BBQ pits, but no kitchen.

San Antonio, TX

if the bbq pits r big enough you can cook on them too.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Yea...I was thinking that too although I don't know how often they get used. They may need some cleaning first. Would anyone be willing to volunteer to grill? I'm not very good at it.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Anaid - glad you are coming! The way it has turned out at the past DG trades I've been to (and not that many!) is that everyone brings much more than the agreed upon trades - sometimes you don't know you "need" a plant until someone tells you about it! The initial trades are saved aside - and the other items are laid out on tables and people wander and talk and explain and ask questions... and it's really a fun time.

Food - hmmm... what if we bring items that don't need heating? Or what if we go to a restaurant with a room we could reserve - like a barbecue place? Just thinking out loud here.. Other thoughts?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Kim - we cross posted. I'm not a great open grill cook - only a home griller...

San Antonio, TX

I dont mind helping grill but I dont want to be mainly responsible. How is that normally handled? Money is collected to purchase meat to grill or what? How many people normally are fed? What about plates, drinks, etc..... Is this a one day affair?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

The way it's been handled in the past is that people volunteer to bring pot luck dishes to make a meal. The former place had a kitchen with a stove and electricity, so items to be heated were easy. (crock pots, etc.) People vol'd to bring plates, drinks, etc.

Kim - is there electricity for crock pots?

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I think there is but I will need to double check.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Crock pots could offer the heated items and the other items could be brought in ice chests or room temp. Just a thought. Hoping others will chime in here with ideas.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok guys...I went and checked out our pavilion today on my way home. It has 10 full size picnic tables, so if you think you will need a lot of space you may want to bring your own table. I have one 6' folding table I may be able to bring. We also have a wide area around the pavilion so if the weather is cooperative there will be lots of space for things outside the pavilion as well. There is a BBQ pit, looks a bit used but if we covered the grills with foil then I think they would work fine. There is a little bit of a walk back to the pavilion, but it is a little closer than the other one I could've gotten. I am thinking that we who are able to help will need to assist those who have a lot of plants to move. Wagons would be very helpful. There are two outlets, one on each side of the pavilion, all 3-prong. I can bring some extension cords and strips, and if others have these to bring that would also help. So....now that we know what we have to work with, what ideas do we have for food?

:) Kim

San Antonio, TX

I've found if you pick a theme you can better select the foods to bring. Hope this isnt inconvenient for anyone.....

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok everyone....this roundup is less than a month away. Can we please have a little more participation and interest so we can get things decided? It is frustrating trying to help plan something when no one seems to really care. My suggestion would be to bring crock pots for warm food and otherwise items that do not need electricity. But that is just a suggestion. I don't mean to sound cranky but I am used to much more enthusiasm for these events than we are seeing.

Kim

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Kim - think it's the cool weather and everyone is outside and not on the computer?? There's a Houston gathering this Saturday, and the same thing is happening - and it's in less than a week. I really think folks will be checking in soon.

Crock pots and side dishes sound like a good idea to me. I'll bring chili!

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I hope that is all it is. Chili sounds great!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I've been outside almost nonstop! I hope so, too. There are people on the trade list who are posting - so maybe they haven't had this thread on "watch." I'll go there and link to this one.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I just linked the other thread to this one. We should see everyone soon!

Likely folks aren't looking at the general Texas forum - only the other link they've replied to. Sometimes I don't look at the general Texas forum either when I get really busy.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm sorry we have been so slow to let you know we ARE very excited about this event.
I will bring a salad and desert.
I will bring a wagon to help with plant moving.
My headcount is 2.
Charlene

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Great Charlene! I'll get back over to the trade link with my trades - been so busy outside planting the fall color!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Now, Blue_Eyes, you saw me wk b4 last & you will see me on the 28th, & you will see me & my shadows in CS.
I will bring Corn Casserolle & have to ck with the other 2 for their food.
Just too little time to be on puter much but we ARE excited & busy trying to get it all together!
Thanks for all your hard work & don't think we are not still behind you, just b/c we are playing in the dirt!!!
:~)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Would anyone be willing to bring paper plates, forks, spoons or maybe drinks?

Anaid - yes a one day thing - or part of the day, anyway. Kim's post at the top says "start at 10:00". Trades, chatting, then food, then trades, more food, more chatting... more food... LOL. Last year's RU ended in the early afternoon, I think. I had to leave a bit earlier than that.

So far we have:
1 crockpot of chili - bookworm
corn casserole - smockette
salad - Charlene
dessert - Charlene

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

I will be there, Not sure if Terrell is coming or not... Will Ask him tonight and post again...
Might be bringing my daughter Carrie and my sister Paula if she is free that weekend.

San Antonio, TX

I will bring paper plates, forks/spooks, napkins, and sodas (if sodas is ok)

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

I'll bring water. Bill and I will be there.

Anne

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

just bumping this up!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

10-good buddy!!!!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Good idea, Kim! Hope to see everyone who's thinking about it - come on!

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm thinking about it. This group is not as lively as the FW RU group. There was hardly an hour passed b4 and since w/o someone posting to the threads.

We gotta build a fire under this group and get it going! LOL

Charlene

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

If I'm not mistaken, Dave will be @ this one also! Right, Dave?

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I agree charlene....we need to get some more excitement going for this one!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi all - I've been out of circulation for a few days - had some hefty dental surgery - but almost good as new right now! Looks like we have for food:
1 crockpot of chili - Bookworm
1 corn casserole - Smockette
1 salad - Charlene
1 dessert - Charlene
Paper plates, forks, spoons, napkins, sodas - Anaid
Water - AuntAnne

Anyone else bringing food?

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I will bring some chips and cream puffs, and ice if needed. I will do what I can to help prepare for this but my parents had to make an unexpected trip home to Ohio and I am watching their house and pets. I will be making a trip from Bryan to Marlin (a little over an hour drive) every other day. Also, I've got a big exam next Wed and need to get all my plants in. So it'll be a stressful week for me. Any help is appreciated. Thanks so much bookworm for making a food list.

Thanks, Kim

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Sure thing, Kim - I figured you were in the midst of mid-terms. Just make it easy on yourself. I'll be glad to do anything else - just let me know. I'm sorry your folks won't be there - was looking forward to meeting the new Texans!

Sounds like the weather will be cooperating nicely!

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks....my mom may be back in time to come but they have to wait and see how things go up there. The weather does sound nice, it has been great since it cooled off.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

I'll ck with my other two & see what they are bringing for food.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm bringing something... (helpful as always, aren't I?) I'll bring brownies and something else... I'll let you know what the something else is as soon as I know. :-)

P.S. Good luck with the exams, Kim. I'm sorry you have the added stress of housesitting for your parents on top of that. We'll see you next weekend.... We're looking forward to this, even though we haven't been talking a lot about it!! :-)
