Only in the SF bay area?

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

I'm looking for a plant that only seems to be available in the SF Bay area. Giant Burmese Honeysuckle (Lonicera hildebrandiana) I would love to have this plant! If someone is willing to share a rooted cutting or ripe seeds I would be happy to trade or pay postage. If its available at your local nursery I would love to have a small plant. I will reimburse any expense in getting it!
Thank you!

Since you know it's only available here, I'm guessing maybe you have the names of some places that are known to have it? If you could let us know what those places are it might improve the chances of someone finding it at a nursery (if nobody has seeds/cuttings).

Ill work on that thanks.

Sorry--I just figured you already knew some places, otherwise how would you have known it was available here.

I did see alot of SF area nurserys that listed them but didn't make a list of them. I will go back and get their names. San Marcos Growers had a pretty long list of nurserys they supplied them to.

San Marcos doesn't have this on their current availability list, so that's a dead end at least for now. Monrovia grows this one too, they ship to a wider area of the country than San Marcos does, so your best bet would be to find a nursery near you that carries Monrovia plants, and see if they'll order one for you. On Monrovia's website, you can also look up a plant, and then put in your zip code and it'll tell you if any nurseries in your area have recently taken delivery of that plant.

Bummer then, I did check Monrovia too but it was also a dead end. I guess at this point Im hoping for a kind soul to share. O:-)

When you say Monrovia was a dead end, is it just that they didn't list any nurseries near you that had taken delivery of this particular plant? All that means is that you'd have to ask a nursery to order it for you. I think Monrovia ships to nurseries all over the country, so I'd be surprised if there isn't at least one nursery in your area that carries their plants, and if they're already ordering from Monrovia it should be very easy for them to order you one (assuming Monrovia has some available now)

If I were you, I'd try posting somewhere with a broader audience like the trading forums. I'm not sure where you saw that the SF Bay Area was the only place you'd find it, but since Monrovia ships plants all over the country and when I googled the plant name there's also a wholesale grower in WV that may grow it, I think there's just as good a chance that someone out there who's not in CA has this.

I believe I have seen this recently. It's a good thing I carry a knife with me. I will keep my eye out and try to get a cutting.

Battle Ground, WA(Zone 8b)

I have two of these growing on (and largely covering) a fence in my side yard in Salinas, CA. I'd be happy to try to root some cuttings for anyone who wants them (they need frequent trimming anyway to keep them from going totally crazy). If anyone has any good advice on how to root cuttings from this, please let me know. I can't imagine that it would be very hard; they grow like crazy.

So if anyone is interested, let me know how to get them to you and I'll try.

ecrane, me saying only in the Bay area was more of a question than an statement. In my searching I came accost references to the plant in the Bay area also here on Dave's the zip code reports were all in Northern Ca. Those things together made me wonder if it was the only place it was available.
I did contact Monrovia and they had no more plants to ship out until spring and while I do have a Nursery in my area that sells their plants they couldn't tell me if it was on their shipping list for spring. I've asked this Nursery to order special plants for me in the past but they are more the type that would charge me for the air I was breathing in talking to them. I also spoke with Barry from Sun farm in WV. and he no longer grows this Honeysuckle. Thank you for reminding me about the plant trading forum, while I do poke thru from time to time I rarely start threads there.
Hopefully Weatherguesser (sending you dmail) will be able to get some cuttings to root from his plants and my quest will be over!
Thank you for all your help as always!

Hello All,

I am a sales rep for Monterey Bay Nursery in Watsonville, California.
We sell to independent nurseries in The LA area. You might try to special order one through Armstrong Garden Center. I believe we have a few left. Also, these are grafted. I do not think that they do very well on their own root stock. They may be suceptible (sp.?) to a root disease. I think they are grafted onto Lonicera japonica 'Halliana' . A great plant by the way, it is hardy to at least Sunset zone 8 and blooms very profusely. It is hard to tell by this picture but the flowers can get to 6" long.

I'm looking for Burmese Honeysuckle too. I have many plants to trade and my list on this site is not complete. I can also pay if I don't have any of your wants.
