Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Hi All....there will be an October Bingo game. We are coming off the end of September Bingo # 5 from here..

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/771054/

I'm going to try my hand at hosting and threegardners has generously offered to hold the cards!

So far we have had 5 offers of prizes from gift certificates to plants and / or leaves! So we are looking good in the Prize department already!!

I will be posting the list to choose from on Monday, October 1st and then I'll give until the end of the week to get your cards in...

Shall we have the first calls on Saturday the 6th or wait until Monday the 8th??

Thanks,
Susan

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Susan, I had offered a gift certificate to the Violet Gallery last time, both because I like them and because I wanted to offer to act as a personal shopper when I go up there next month... but since Bonnie had recently received an order from them, I offered instead to just paypal her the $ to spend on the plant of her choice.

I think most places will let you purchase a gift certificate and send it directly to the winner... they may even have a way to take care of it electronically, without the need to send actual paper certificates back and forth.

HTH?

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

sounds great to me.

Susan: This is what I did since it's how I received a prize in a Bingo earlier in the year. I offered 6th place prize in this last Bingo of $15 to Bluebird Greenhouse. Rose318/Patti was the winner of that prize. I just dmailed her the link to Bluebirds and told her to let me know what she wanted to order. She d-mailed her order to me and then I placed the order on line, had it billed to me and shipped to her. I hope that doesn't sound like too much confusion? It was really easy to do, using a credit card and ordering on line with the shipping address being her name & address and billing was my name and address.

Hi,
Thank you all for your help with the prize ideas... I like the paypal one and the one where they pick from a web site...
Well it has been a very hard week at work so I am off to bed and thank god tomorrow is my last day for the week..
This is off topic but I just feel as I have to say it... To every one out there who ownes a dog, PLEASE PLEASE watch it when outside. 1. for things it can eat and get stuck.. like rocks that were in his stomach for we guess about a month if not longer... He died on Tuesday ... 2. for your little dogs who think they are big and when a big dog comes into your yard it runs after the big dog and then the big dogs just slings it back and forth and now you have a dead dog... Just watch our 4 legged friends. Sorry but has been a very up setting week at work for me...
Susan

(Zone 1)

Oh Susan .... I just know working in a Veterinary Clinic must be so stressful at times! My husband and I are both animal lovers and it kills me to hear of animals suffering. I have never heard of a dog eating rocks, was this dog hungry and not being fed by it's owners? And, I so know what you mean about little dogs vs big dogs. We had 3 dogs at one time ... 2 very large breeds and 1 was a toy poodle mix. The little dog thought he was "king" of the world .... we had to keep him separate from the large dogs. The big dogs wanted to play but the little one just wanted to fight. We just could not let that little guy anywhere near the big ones. One of the large dogs turned on him one day ... I guess he just wasn't going to take the yapping anymore. Luckily we were here to intervene so no harm was done.

You get some rest and have a great couple of days off!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Lin,
No this dog was not hungry.. He would just eat any and everything in sight.. The week before he ate the remote with the batteries... Those we go him to puke up.. He also had a very bad habit of eating rocks... Well these stayed put until it rotted his gut and there was just to much damage done... Tanner was just a year old Choc. Lab... he was so sweet... It tears at my heart... I can handle putting something to sleep that is ill or hurt very bad... I just seen him lastmonth before he ate the remote and he was so alive and now he is gone... Ok I am really off to bed...
Hugs and Thanks,
Susan

Quick note to say I am going out of town for a couple of wonderful days in the Mountains, so if anyone misses me...I didn't drop off the face of the earth...lol Have a great end of week and weekend everyone!
Janet

(Zone 1)

Oh .... I wanna go to the Mountains!!! What Mountains are you going to visit Janet??? I love the Blue Ridge and The Smokies ... ane even the Mountains of North Georgia!

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Lin, we are going to the Beechwood Inn Bed and Breakfast...here is the website. It is a Birthday present from a dear friend of mine. She and I will be gone for a couple of nights and be home late Saturday. It is only an hour and half from me...so it won't be a long car ride either! We are staying in the Blueberry Cottage..LOL Sounds yummy doesn't it.

Mornin' All.....lots of cooking to do today for a big family dinner tonight, great grandma and grandpa are in town!!!

I like the "biggest loser" prize :))) so I think I'll offer some of the baby streps I've been growing for that. They're little but they should be fun to play with and watch grow over the winter! They need to be separated or maybe I'll just send a whole leaf and let the "biggest loser" do the separating. LOL

Oh My Goodness Janet ..... what a lovely place! I just quickly scanned over some of their photo's! I am going back to bookmark that site and look some more! Please let me know how your trip goes and how you liked it "in person"! My youngest sister lives in Kennesaw and we love taking short trips when I'm up there visiting her! That is going to deifintely be on my list of places to visit for a day or two! When I was up there visiting my sister last month she wanted to take me to a city (I think it might have been Clayton) for a day trip but we never made it. Last year she took me to Ellijay and I loved that little city! I also remember a few years back we went to Alpharetta Georgia and the little community of Crabapple Corners which is actually a part of the Roswell/Alpharetta area. Just a really pretty area of the state of Georgia!

Have a wonderful time .... what a Great Birthday Gift!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Have a Fun Time Janet : )

Brenda..I am Loving The Biggest Loser Prize!! Wouldn't mind losing at all in fact! LOL

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Aren't those cute? I have three trays of them and they would have little plantlets down the entire leaf if I had not pulled them up wondering if they had roots yet!! That was awhile back. LOL They did have roots and then I could never get them buried right again............... thus baby streps on the ends mostly!

Bingo for October has come together well.......thanks everybody!! I'll post the call list and the list of prizes on Monday.

~Brenda

(Zone 1)

More Great Prizes for Another Fun Bingo Game!

I know I wouldn't mind that biggest loser prize either! I haven't had much luck with strep's or their leaves, but I'm still trying! Gail just sent me two beautiful Streps that I'm gonna try my best to keep alive this time!

(Zone 1)

Woo Hoo .... can't wait! I also can't believe it's going to be October already! Where has this year gone?

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

October good grief only two months till Christmas. Did you all see all of the Christmas decorations already out? I think they could at least let Thanksgiving get here before putting them out.

I guess I should talk. I went to Lowe's with my DS to get paint and I had to stop by the garden shop. Well I found the cutest little Christmas tree in a pot for $3.98 so I bought her. She is going to have to stay there for awhile until I can figure out where to plant her in the spring.

I can't wait for the game to start. It is always fun.

Janet I wish I had a friend. It would sure be nice to go on a trip. Have fun and don't stay away long or we may have to send out the AV police. You won't like the AV police because they smell like dirt and fertilizer. :)

(Zone 1)

LOL .... really I am ROFLMBO at Makshi!

Makshi my dear ... YOU have MANY friends on this forum!! I love that personality!!

Oh, how I wish we could grow Christmas trees (the real thing) here in the South! That's one think I always enjoy when visiting the mountains ... seeing all those trees and plants that we can't grow down here because we don't get the cold they need in the winter months! :) hee hee ... seems I've heard a few folks say that about the South too .... that we can grow so many different things down here, year round in some areas! I guess there are advantages and disadvantages to what ever part of the country we live in!

I still think it would be a lot of fun someday if a bunch of us could meet in one central location somewhere in the country .... just to visit and sight see and buy plants if we happen to see any along the way! LOL. A BIG OLE' GESSIE VACATION!

.... Now, I've gotta get off this computer and go mow the lawn! See y'all later!

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

I too was LOL at Makshi with her AV police! Can smell them coming....LOL

Lin we'd have to plan that vacation within driving distances of one of the great greenhouses like Bluebrid's or Brennan's so we could really shop and enjoy!!!

So Grandkids, you gotta love 'em.....right??? While I was getting a big pot of chili together I heard a crash and my one year old daughter had made it to one of my shelves in her walker.....good thing I have a thing for seeing roots on the leaves I put down.....I saw lots of them with this batch. LOL

I want to be the biggest loser! Can I just not play and forfeit any place except the big loser slot?????? Lou

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Not that it's close to most of us... but if we plan that Gessie trip/get together, we chould go to Logee's!!!!

Who doesn't love Logee's???

(Zone 1)

Oh, I'm definitely up for a trip to Logee's! I have never been there but have been getting their catalog for years and drooling over their plants! Oh wow, what fun that would be!

hmmmm .... Springtime would be a nice time to take a trip!

:)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Road trip!!

I'm in.

(Zone 1)

Woo .... Ok Critter! That makes three of us so far ... you, Brenda and me! Anyone else game??

We would need someone to volunteer to do the driving cause I don't drive on the interstates anymore!! I would have to fly into whatever city we chose and we could all chip in on a rental vehicle ... a mini van would probably work! Oh, I just think it would be so much fun! Maybe for a long weekend in the spring?

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

What about a trip to Lyndon Lyons in New York? :) I'm up for a road trip too!!!!!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Oh You gals are killing me!! A road trip sounds so fun..and just to get to meet you all in person would be so special in itself..but I am scared to death of flying and I don't travel well by car anymore so that pretty much leaves me out.Oh well..I hope you all can put it together..and...I would expect to see "Lots" of pictures and hear all of your stories!! Oh what a Blast you would have!!

Hey Lou.... LOL..I wonder if that would work?

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Looks like I'm going to have threegardners looking at those biggest loser claims real well!! The one with the most uncalled calls left on their card not the most unclaimed calls!! ROTFLOL

I wonder why all those great greenhouses are in the eastern US? That would be a real road trip wouldn't it?? :))

~Brenda

(Zone 1)

Oh yeah, it would be an awfully long way for some of y'all to travel, wouldn't it? Hey! I'm game for a trip to the Northwest too! Any good places out that way?

Cedar: I understand. I don't travel well by car on long trips anymore. I get so stiff with my arthritis. When we go down to Fort Lauderdale to visit family down there, it's 3 1/2 hours and hubby has to stop at least once, usually twice for me to get out and walk around because I stiffen up so bad!

I love flying ... I don't like being on a plane for more than 2 hrs at a time though ... so when I fly anywhere, I schedule it so I fly from here to somewhere and have a layover and then on to the next leg of the journey ... hee hee! I am exhauted by the time I get to where I'm going but have fun getting there! A lot of people think I'm nuts! I love airports ... just walking around, or sitting and watching people!
