Hi Guys, I don't expect that you'll only be able to pick out 1 so lets say 5 is the limit. :-)
Here are some of mine.
-American Goldfinch
-Black-capped Chickadee
- House Finch
-Northern Mockingbird
I'll reserve the right to think about my last pick. :-)
If your not sure what each of your bird sounds like then go here and look them up alphabetically.

What's your Favorite Bird Song or Sound?
Mourning dove
Chickadee
Goldfinch (so sweet!)
Towhee (always hear 'em before I see 'em)
Catbird (I caught my neighbor looking up in my bradford pear tree the other morning... she swore there was a kitten up there!!! I assured her it was my catbird... I love when it visits the suet cake feeder!)
Hummingbird fights!
LOL, thats all Beth??
You can add more later if you would like to.
Yes the Mourning Doves have a very soothing sound! :-)
Thanks for reminding me of that. Pelle
I just remember the mourning doves from when I was a kid, and it brings back my childhood!
Is this your first time posting in this forum?
If so; Welcome!!!!
Yes, I'm not that much of a bird watcher...but I do lurk on other forums. I'm mostly on the morning glory forum, and MGs draw lots of hummingbirds!
Wood Warbler:

You fooled me Resin; I thought for sure you were going to say Blackbird. :-)
I just saw my first migating Hummingbird out back! :-)

Hermit Thrush
http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/audio/Hermit_Thrush.html
Wood Thrush, Swainson's Thrush, Brown Thrasher, Rose-breasted Grosbeak... hard to pick, really
Oh thats a great one Claypa!
So beautiful!
"Old Sam Peabody"--The White-Throated Sparrow. Especially when he sings in the Fall on his way south.
Wood thrush
Whip por will (sp)
Loon
White throat-ed sparrow
Red wing blackbirds (hundreds waiting to fly back south)
5???
I have to add, oriole and rose breasted grosbeak.
Nice picks cpart!
LOL, I thought I was being more than fair saying 5 but in your case as you have so many great birds I could definitely see your dilemma keeping it to 5 :-)
Either that, or I can't follow rules. LOL
Gold Finch
All My WP's -Hairy, Downey, RB... I love their fussy little chatter
I have a song I like, but I don't know yet who makes it though. I just hear it occasionally lately. Sounds like a kids whistle, only not as harsh, a little hoarse. It is kind of sad & lonely sounding.
People who can learn and id all those bird call amaze me!!
You are correct. It is hard to id the birds sometimes. I think that is because some birds have quite a few different songs.
Yesterday, I heard a pretty sound and I said "what is that?" Hubby said "a bluejay"
Impossible, I thought, bluejays are cranky, shrill, nasty sounding, yet this was pretty. Sure enough, it was a bluejay, they can make a nice sound too. They just choose the annoying sound for everyday. LOL
Hi nanny, Thanks for your post!
I have at least 2 bird calls I'm hearing that I can't identify also. I've searched the trees looking through binoculars but cannot seem to find anything I already know. :-)
Your right cpart, I have heard our bluejays making some very nice sounds lately too and was surprised.
We were so surprised this year to hear the little 'chatter' that humming birds make. Never knew that!!
Listening is as much fun as watching.
I once had a rose breasted grosbeak land on the rail of the deck by me. He sang me a song for several minutes, tipping his head first one way, then the other, before flying off.
What a delight to be sang to by that beautiful bird. I will never forget it.
Winter and House Wren , Eastern Bluebird and Louisiana Waterthrush. The Ovenbird is great also.
The Loon is my favorite of all time. :)
DH and I will be outside talking and come to a complete stop, when we hear a loon. We both smile, and soon forget whatever we were talking about.
When other people are over, they don't get it. They just look at us strange. LOL
Very rarely do I hear them in NJ. Sometimes when we are fishing on a cold day on the lake I hear them. When I was in Canada I was in my glory!!! Lovely sounds....
I like the Cardinal's songs. I have one on my computer to notify me of incoming mail.
What a great way to know "you've got mail", Brugie!!! I'd love that feature on my computer!!!!
I always loved the sound of the robins at dusk; when I was a teenager obeying a too early "lights out", I would sit in the window and read til it got too dark to see, and the robins were always the last to stop singing. It still makes me melancholy to hear them at dusk.
I love the sound of the hermit thrush too, and the awesome repertoire of the catbird and mockingbird. And that piercing clear whistle the cardinal makes.....
Couldn't live without birds.....
Here a few favourite songs and calls from Australia:
Australian Magpie
Grey Butcherbird
Grey Shrike-thrush
Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo
Ganggang Cockatoo
plus the Common Blackbird which was introduced here from England and although a pest here still has a most beautiful song
and from back when I lived in England the
Song Thrush
That's the wise thrush, he sings each song twice over
Lest you should think he never can recapture
That first fine careless rapture
Robert Browning
Kennedy
Ooohhh, I wonder if I could get the Goldfinch??
How did you get it Brugie?
Very nice Kennedy!!
Is there a site that has the sounds of Australian birds?
Here is a site with some of the above: http://abc.net.au/archives/av/birds.htm
One other favourite bird song I love is the Skylark
la gentille alouette avec son tire-lire
Tire l'ire a l'ire et tire-lirant tire
Vers la voute du ciel
Puis son vol vers ce lieu
Vire et desire dire
Adieu dieu adieu dieu.
Guillaume de Salluste Du Bartas (1544-1590)

Thanks Kennedy! :-)
I just did a search: Bird sounds wav files........and that brings up loads of places to download sounds.
And now a quote from a wonderful French poet?
If I ever needed proof that bird lovers were a widely diverse group, this great thread would be it.
Congrats Pelle.
wood thrush because his song sound like he's singing down a hollow so it sounds like an echo
mockingbird, too, of course
First time to see this thread...agree with woodspirit1 the Wood Thrush is my favorite song...and any Warbler singing.
Oh my...ya know my list would be a little different now I think!
What a great thread.
Grey Butcherbird (deep, melodic, fluting calls, often in partnership with others).
Australian Magpie (melodic caroling, either as an individual bird or in unison with others)
Barking Owl (because it's so funny to hear the sound of a dog barking all over the sky at night).
Osprey (not because of the beauty of their sound, just because they're ospreys)
"28" parrots.
Since this thread started, I have fallen for the sounds the bird everyone loves to hate makes....the Brown-headed Cowbird. http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Brown-headed_Cowbird/id
