We definitely have our share of all kinds of grasshoppers here in Lavon, TX; however, I have never seen another like the attached, so very large and so very majestic looking! This grasshopper was 3+ inches in length! Has anyone ever seen one quite like this and does anyone know what makes it so unique?

That's a Birdwing Grasshopper, Shistocerca genus. Might be able to narrow down the species from the size and where it was found.
Yes I agree. From what I'm finding it's probably the Alutacea. Apparently it has the distinctive stripe down it's back. Thanks so much!!
