Thanks for that information, Shirley and Andrew!
Andrew, the walls are painted a very bright flat white, but while I believe there is enough light for growing in the bathroom (2+ feet from the south facing window), I don't think it is bright enough to induce blooms. I had originally thought about getting those mirror tiles and sticking them up, but the mylar seems cheaper and can be easily cut to fit. I'm going to give it a shot!!!

Hoyas: latifolias, new hoyas, addictive personalities - #2
Ann,
Andrew explained Mylar better than I ever could. He is so right that stuff that I used is very thin and hard to handle. I stapled mine to the wall, rather than use tape, because I thought the little staple holes would be easier to patch than tape that would pull off paint.
Doug
Thanks for that tip Doug! I think I might (if I can afford it) try and get the thicker mylar - it seems as though it might be easier to handle.
Ann
Karen,
Real nice looking plants. I love the names!
Doug
Karen,
Sorry it took so long to respond to you asking what I got, I lost my list for a while, and have been in the middle of a mild "freak - out" (no freak out pills needed this time, happily).
I just found out that I am having a very picky cousin from out of state coming to visit during the second week of October...I am really hoping that everything roots before then. I wonder what they will think of the 28 beer bottles full of hoya cuttings snugly sitting on my kitchen counter?
Ha! She is also horribly allergic to cats! I have 5, and they are all strictly indoors. I think that I may need to go and buy some more vacuum bags, as I am down to only one!
Oh well. Good thing that they claim to like kids eh? They don't actually have any though...We'll see if it's the truth when I take them out to the HUGE trampoline in the back yard for a "fun" game of jump-tag! HeeeHeee.

Ha...doesn't sound like you will have them there for long.
What is carnosa 'silver'? Is that the same thing I have as carnosa 'Gray Ghost'?
Marcy
Nice haul, Sara. Is the H. lyi the REAL one?
Carol
Carol,
You would have to ask dlambii (David Michael) he has all of the details on this hoya.. :) He has also been communicating with the people this hoya originated from. When he posted pictures earlier on, he said that this was what he bought it as, and what he will call it until he learns differently.

Jen - LOVE the last one - is it h. chihuahua?? So cute! Hope you get it!
Karen
Michaela, he is so cute - a chihuahua too? I love his little sweater!
Karen, "Pep" (short for Pepino - spanish for cucumber) is supposedly a teacup chihuahua. His first mama is dying of liver failure, and my friend who took him in already has two and doesn't think he wants to keep him. He is 8 months old and spent 4 days with me last week, he is such a good boy, doesn't run away from you outdoors, likes my cat, ignores the bird, takes up very little space in bed, and most important, shows absolutely no interest in my hoyas! I like that most of all in a pet!!
ha ha - I just got it, Karen - H. chihuahua! Very funny! Hey, i am slow sometimes -- but as long as I don't wind up with as many chihuahuas as I have hoyas, I'll be ok....I have decided that if things don't work out with Pep, I am going to put in an application with chihuahua rescue.
Pretty cats, Michaela! But they look to be taking up prime hoya space there on that windowsill.....
As for the H. lyi, I can not say if it is or isn't the REAL hoya lyi as i've never seen hoya lyi before. I only know what the plant was sold to me as and that it originated in Thailand.
I have no reason to believe that it is something other than what it was sold to me as and I know there has been some major discussion on other forums as to the correct identity of this hoya, but until it is proven otherwise to me that it isn't hoya lyi then that is the name that shall remain on my plant.
Got it....thanks. I was not challenging nor doubting...just wondering???
Got my package today, here are the cuttings
from the left:
limoniaca
lauterbachii
cv Iris Marie
obtusifolia
neoebudica
and in the front middle:
sp Tanna and ariadna
Also, a heart shaped hydroponic pot from Doris's company, I am so excited to have gotten it- it is the coolest, most adorable little pot... I just can't decide which hoya cutting will go into it.
Jen,
Those are some really nice looking cuttings! You did good this year (or should I say bad...haha). Did you get those in a trade or did you purchase them somewhere? If you purchased them, I'm curious where you bought them from.
Enjoy!
Gabi
Glad to see that i'm not the only one who still has that gotta get some new hoyas itch!!!! Nice looking cuttings there Jen.
I'm not even gonna take the time to list the new things that i've gotten this year . The list is just way too long as i've probably added at least 70 new hoyas since January!!!
They were a trade..but the pot was a much appreciated and sweet thankyou gift. I have been studying ALL DAY (chemistry - ick!) so they were a welcome diversion! The cuttings are all extremely healthy and lush, and that lauterbachii is sooo soft and fuzzy, no time to pot them all up today though, this chemistry test is more important than hoyas...(I can't believe I said that!!)
Maykela,
Your Hoyas are beautiful, and you have fantastic places to grow and display them as well. Thank you for sharing.
Doug
Doug, thanks for the compliments.
Maykela - Beautiful hoyas!!! How long have you had your "first hoya?" It's huge!! Thanks for sharing!
Karen
Maykela...WOW!!! Lovely plants and a beautiful house....great displays!!! Thanks for letting us in on your paradise!
Carol
Ditto on the comments about your beautiful home and Hoyas, Maykela. I absolutely adore your windows and creative displays. The unruly nature of Hoyas makes them difficult to display, but, you have managed to tame the viney beasts! Thanks for sharing your spot in paradise!
Mel
Makela I enjoyed your pictures alot. Thank you for sharing your collection. They are all so dark green and healthy. You are definitely doing it right!!!
Jeri
Thanks everyone for your compliments.
Karen,
The carnosa is over 23 years now.
Over the years, little birds called - Nectarinia osea, made their nest on her.
Untill two years ago, I did'nt know that there are other varieties....
Since then I'm addicted.
Maykela I know the feeling completely!!!!! All the good people on this forum do not help the addiction other than to aid it!!!!! LOL
Jeri
Maykela-- your plants and pictures are all lovely. I know the addiction well. Ha. What is that plant on the wood shelves (in the 3rd from last picture)...right in the middle on the top shelf (with the polyneura leaves just under it)? It has a very neat looking leaf. Very healthy looking too.
I love your new little greenhouse too. Was it hard to put up? How big is it?
Marcy
