This moth stayed on this Dahlia for a long time.

Wow, great shot......looks like one of the Tiger Moths.
Probably genus Grammia, maybe G. doris, #8198... or thereabouts

Thanks Fly Girl & Claypa. I spent quite some time on BugGuide looking at the Tigers without an acceptable match. The doris looks close but I'm not sure, the pattern on the wings and head are off a bit.
I know moths are hard to pin down. I'd be satisfied calling it a Tiger moth if we can be reasonably sure of that.
