Thanks for the all the welcomes!!

Teresa,
We will have a little gathering next Saturday - Tree Peony order should arrive by then.

Ann,
My current garden is Zone 3A, but it is very sheltered, with a South facing back yard. Moving to a 480 acre farm in Zone 2A. I plan to divide some perennials, take the special ones and hope to move 36 roses, 3 dogwoods, diablo ninebark etc. Some of the bigger shrubs have been in place for over 5 years so I will have to leave them. I'm quite excited to see my roses in true full sun. The one plant I've will definately plant on the farm is a Giant White Fleeceflower. Too big for my jam packed city yard.

Good job of keeping in mind that every change has a good side too. You will have more daylight in one day too!
Looking forward to keeping an eye on your new developments when you post them.

You will have so much fun decideing how to develope a dream garden. It looks like you will have no problem with water! Start your diary so you can share all the changes with us.

And the original log cabin..... At east I bet that is what it is. Hope you will keep that.

Depending on age of your kiddos (if any). What a wonderful play house it could be for them, or a guest house (if you want guests).

We had to build a structure (SB) for our teen boys for music practicing etc etc etc. The girls had an A frame house in the back yard so they could sleep out when they wanted.

Space - wonderful plus a river.

How far are you from a town/village/hamlet. Just thinking of skidoos on the frozen water in winter.

What a wonderful location. Couldn't see any neighbours. Wonderful.

Some building need to come down for safety reasons. That original log house is one, but I plan to use the logs to build some sort of structure related to gardening. The farm is 13 miles from St.Paul & about 30 miles from Bonnyville. Both towns are 5000+ for population. The river is actually a very large slough. However, Chicken Hill Lake is about 2 miles NE. Neighbours are 1 mile away. Crown land North of the farm. Skidooing is a definate, but wasn't exagerating about the rocks, so need to be careful. I'm the 4th generation to own this property in my family. My 9 year daughter has a very long wish list of animals that she hopes we will get.

Sounds absolutely blissful, Joanne. 4th generation on your property. A real canadian story. And a n absolute TON of work and fun.

Oops, missed part of the farm heritage. It's in an area called Rock Valley & boy are there ever a lot of rocks in all sizes. My Dad registered the farm name about 30 years ago. It's called Sunny Stone Farms.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Jo,
Your dad must've had a good sense of humor.... Ü

Joanne

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

I want to echo the humor thing cause my hubby grew up on a farm and when I said I wanted rocks in the garden he just about went sideways. Apparently he spent his summers picking rocks out of pastures and cropland , his dad figured they were trouble not decorative!
He has warmed up to the rocks now because he doesn't have to mow, water or trim the edges.
Maybe Joanne will have the next big dinasaur find on her farm.
Ann

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Yup, I myself had spent many hours picking rocks, when I was a kid. I had called some Landscape Contracting/Design businesses to see if there is a Market for the rocks. We have all colors, shapes & sizes, some over 6 feet HW.

It would be cool it we could sell them. Generations kicked, swore & spit @ those rocks, so it would be awesoome to make some money on them.

We are going to add a number of rocks around the dugout & "pretty" it up with a rock waterfall/pond look.

I'm always interested in colored rocks - just not too big!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

We are going to the farm next weekend. What color & size do you want? You can check out some that I brought back to Calgary. I have one in Calgary that looks like sandstone, but is a dark teal color. Not that big 1 foot X 8 inches. Lots are igneous...have lots sparkles.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Here's some mini versions of the rocks. They are in boulder size as well.

Ooooo Jo, I need some of those. I think I need to drive up to St. Pauls for a visit next summer...if you don't mind, of course? Ü

Joanne

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

We also have a lot a weather barn wood. Your welcome to come anytime. Note: some of those rocks are a "bit" heavy.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

I'm so excited for you! I loved growing up on the farm and can't wait to move to the 10 acres when we retire. DH said probably in a 2 years.

Wished I lived closer so I could pick up some of the weathered boards. I would luv them for folkart painting.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

found another pic. It's wet, nothing else. In direct sun it sparkles & is a deep teal color

Pretty.

(don't forget to pick those morning glory seeds pods at the lower left hand corner of your pix!!! free seeds!! That's your Star of Yelta, isn't it?)

-J.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Good eye!! Didn't even know there were seed pods there, (Grow Jo) Joanne had given me that Morning Glory - Star of Yelta & it bloomed all summer until last week's frost. The first year a Morning Glory made it past June in my garden.....we usually have a lot of cool nights

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I only recognize the pods because I have 10 million of them hanging off my dead morning glory vines...LOL. Anyone want some?? They'd be a mixture of up to six different kinds of morning glories, cause I can't tell which pods came from which vines....

Joanne, Those are really pretty rocks. Can I drive up with you Jo?

Theresa

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

It's a drive from Calgary (500km). I will take some pictures this weekend of some of the rocks.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Me too!

Maybe we can plant a trip to Joanne O's next summer ( when are you moving Jo?) and visit all the garden centres on the way! Probably need to rent a bus!

Calgary, Canada

I can only imagine a road trip with gardener like you guys. Can you imagine the shopping stops? I better start saving my money now!

Theresa

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Heh heh. Sounds like a date.

I have a Honda Pilot. But we should probably rent a U-haul too!

I'm speaking from experience of course ...Jo & I went on a garden center tour this spring. There were only 12 or 13 of us (rabid gardeners) on a full size Greyhound bus and we totally filled the bottom cargo area with plants AND we had plants in the passenger area with us.
