CLOSED: What is this?

Mannford, OK

Can anyone ID this insect for me? Is it a black wasp? Is there any such thing as a black wasp? Fortunately they are not aggressive. I have a lot of them in my Mexican Heather and garden. They seem to be harmless...so far.

There's a whole family (maybe two, depending who you ask) of these Thread-waisted Wasps, Sphecidae (and Crabronidae), mostly black.
These are harmless to people, as far as I know

"There are hundreds of species of narrow-waisted solitary wasps that live in Kentucky." - from this site:

Oklahoma probably has a similar number!

Thanks, Claypa. It's very similar to the Thread-waisted Wasps but a bit different. Probably in the same family.
