Strange too .. I think I'll call it Midnight Serenade if it sets seeds and breeds true.

Hey Anne - Nice dark blue split petals you got there

There's 2 in the PlantFiles already that are very similar...

It just came out of nowhere.

I went back outside and followed the "trail" . It was actually easy to do because the girth of the vine is about a third as thick as the rest. It's a single plant, but the seeds planted are all from the same batch, which makes me wonder if the provider (can't remember who) had a sense of humor and threw 1 blue SS in there or it is a mutation.

The 'purps' pick up genes for splitting and/or one that was a solid funnel that was carrying for split decided to express itself...

What an eye opener. It's a beaut!!

Maybe a bee came along and pollinated a Sunrise Serenade with a purple purpurea. With all the SS I've been growing, I hope it happens to me!

Anne X - I've been getting double blues and purple I.purpurea for 'quite a few years' and have shared seeds with plenty of other MG gardeners...

I traded some of my double blue-purple I.purpurea to a fellow in Quebec,Canada who owns Solana Seeds

and he subsequently offered them for sale...

I noticed that Cynda offered them the first season after Solana did...

I think yours is descended from my old stock...JMHO...

I love that rich dark blue, it's close to that same blue as the F1 blue from the first Blue Picotee X Minibar that I'm trying so desperately stabilize.
