bruntongardens,

Carol
That was wonderful, thank you so much for sharing.
Peter and Mary-Anne, I am so pleased to hear more about your pending stardom on CBC. I hope I can catch the show on one of my trips north. From my Island to your Island, I am going to share some of my lily collages from earlier this summer. But there are no TV moguls banging on mys garden gate! I had a great visit with Boojum this weekend, her garden still looks grand. My mother came for a visit in mid August, but she missed most of the lilies. She and I are still thinking about returning to Lewis and Harris next year. We might stop by for an autograph! Love to you both, Patti
The last collage has a picture of my 92 year old mom out sailing in Aug in Nantucket and the picture that is above her has our two other favorite gals in the background, Ms. Nell & Winnie, 4 yr old border collie sisters. It was a good lily season except for the huge bunch that got eaten by some bad bunnies that slipped through a hole in the fence early on. I will be more vigilant next spring. Many more to plant this fall thanks mostly to Buggy Crazy great list, plus a couple other vendors,, Lilium speciosum var. album, Bergamo, Early Rose, Genteel Lady, Georgette, Golden Torch , Rosepoint Lace, Siberia, Tristar, Lilium cernuum, Lilium lankongense, Bloody Ram, Daydream, Green Queen, July Snow, Momentous, Moonfairy, Pink up, Starburst , Sunny day, Venture, Henryi citrinum, Rosella's Dream, Dot Com, Golden Stargazer, Halloween, Scheherazade. Rosselini, Tiara.
Can't wait! Patti
We would like to thank all of you for your kind words and yes we will keep you informed of the airing date of the show, as soon as we get o know, we will let you know, many thanks and regards to you all
WOW!!!!! Patti, lovely lilies, there is just so many and you know me I'm lily crazy to. lol, i have got some, double tiger lilies just coming out now, should be able to take some pictures in the next day or two, i will put them on here, when open, the only trouble is , that it is colder than normal for the time of year they are even talking about frost on the mainland, to early, hopefully it does not get here!!
Nice to see your show of lilies, they are magic, so many different types, beautiful, and your mum, well she is just fabulous, some people should take an example from her and her enthusiasm for life, it just goes to show that you are never to old to do anything!!!
Good luck in keeping the bunnies away for next year, we have seen one or two in the garden , but we do not seem to get to much damage, thankfully , not yet anyway.
Glad that you enjoyed you visit at Boojum, she is a lovely lady, we would not mind going to see her garden , and visiting yours, with all them lilies, we are planning on buying another 200 lilies next year for the back garden, we have some there, but not as many as we have in the front garden, we have lilies that flower from beginning of June and are still flowering now, love the variety of colours.
You take care look after yourself and regards as always to you family and your mum, hugs Peter and Mary-Anne
Just popping by to say high, lol
Peter and Mary-Anne, Is that a new dog? Too cute! What a wonderful picture. Boojum has a plethora of great orchids beginning to spike now and some real beauties in bloom. She gave me some seeds of a long wanted Lilium canadense which I hope I can germinate. All of my lilies are long gone, but I will look forward to seeing more of yours. My mom is a trooper, must be that heritage she got from coming from the genes she got from your Island. But she is not a plant person. She likes looking at them, but not interested in gardening at all. Starting to put the gardens to bed and get ready for the bulb planting. My electric auger is at the ready! xox Patti
Hee Hee, we are having a laugh, we keep forgetting that the dog in the picture, is not real, lol, it is a doorstop for the conservatory, he is made of resin, must be must admit that we have had a lot of people say the same thing, thinking that he is real, so you are not alone, we don't really think about it when he gets in a picture, lol.
Well we must say that he is very undemanding, does not cost a lot for food, just have to get a duster out and dust him occasionally, lol
Hi,Peter and Mary Anne ! Your lilies are gorgeous, what a treat! And so glad to see you in the conservatory,Peter !You're so funny about the little dog !LOL I can hardly wait to hear about when will you see your garden on TV ! I'm sorry I won't be able to !
Patti, your lilies are gorgeous too, thanks for sharing !Too bad those bunnies damaged some of them!Nice to meet your mom, she is quite a character ! Those 2 gorgeous border collie sisters are too far in that picture...can you post another one where we can see them more clearly?I also have a dog, a GS,named Boss. He is11 now,but still young in his actions, a real garden helper for his mom !LOL
Adina
Mary-Anne and Peter, I am dumb as a stump! Too funny, are the plants real or fake? And is that good looking guy in the chair one of those card board cut outs of someone famous?
I love seeing the GS, Boss in that lush looking garden. Thanks.
My gals have been digging under a stone wall to root out moles/voles and destroying some nice bulbs and plants a few times a year. So this week, as I was yelling at them once again for their mischief, I finally realized that the stone wall needed to go, not my dear dogs. And just coincidentally, I have been planning to build an 35 foot cascading endless stream on the other side of the house and am in great need of rocks. So the wall will be taken down and moved and re-purposed. The wall was no longer needed anyway as new beds had been built beyond it. I figure I can easily create a gentle slope where the wall was and replant the area with more plants. Smart dogs! Sad Voles!
Here is a collage of the gals. Winnie is the bigger white one, and Nell is the little black one. They were 4 in June and from the same litter. Nell was the runt. The dad is a working border collie on the mainland and the mom belongs to our Island Vet. Three from the litter were white and fluffy coated and three were black and sleek coated. One of the siblings went to a transplanted Scotsmen whose dad is a sheep farmer in Scotland. He named him Glenn after his dad's best working dog. His parents came over this summer from Scotland and wanted to met the litter mates. It was so sweet to see this dog man so enjoying our gals. I swear they understood him, but, oh my, his brogue was so thick that I didn't catch much of what he said. Off to dig my stream! Patti
Patti, your girls are so beautiful and smart too! I just love border collies ! I like watching them when they are gathering the sheep just by looking at them ! I saw this on TV. Is their dad working for real ? Does he take care of some sheep? And how about Glenn, does he take care of the sheep too? Just love your garden too,it's so beautiful !Thanks for sharing !
One of the stray dogs I take care of in the park looks very much alike your girls...could he be a farther cousin?LOL
Adina
Adina, I love that you take care of this stray border collie and others too. He certainly looks like a pure bred that has had a rough life. Yes the dad is a herding dog on the cape and is shown in border collie trials all over the US. But poor Glenn and ours have no sheep. Nantucket once had about 16,000 sheep, but now only a handful kept as pets. I can't say I have ever seen one on the island since arriving here in 1964 except at the fair. The farmer down the road wants us to bring the gals to clear the Canadian geese from his fields this week. They will love that. The conservation foundation is considering re-introducing a flock to take care of some invasive plants on the moors. The gals may yet find work!
Some of the great dogs have "the eye" and some don't, but a human can't tell it by looking at the dogs. However, you can sure see it when several dogs work a flock as the one that has "the eye" will be totally avoided by the sheep will any other working just as well will have a much harder time. Patti
Patti , wow,16,000 sheep?Nantucket sure is a smart and working dog ! Your girls will be so happy to"work"with the geese !LOL
Pufulica is this dog's name and I saved him one winter, when he was a 2 months old puppy. Someone took him away from his mom and left him outside, in the freeze. Poor boy was so scared and was hiding under a broken car and was whinning. Everyone brought him food, but he wouldn't get out from the car, unless everyone had left. I knew the little furball's mom and sister were in the park, where I was walking my dog every three times a day. After a whole week,I couldn't bare it anymore and, with my DS' help,we managed to take him out .We took him upstairs and gave him to eat and washed him a little bit...he wouldn't get out from a chair ! After a few hours, before DH came from work...he,he...I took him to the park ,to his mom.It was such a wonderful and touching meeting ! Since then, about 5 years ago, I've been feeding Pufulica everyday in the park. His mom has been taken by the dog catchers and we couldn't find her ...
This is Pufulica's mom,Fetita.
