Oh Beth, aren't they beautiful.. there were 14 total this morning that were open.. I love that electric blue color and yellow on the center of the tube. Really good shots.

Gorgeous Beth. Great pics.

Beth - That is uplifting news...really glad that you are getting blooms and hopefully seeds(!)...

The color of your bloom looks darker than trhe ones that Gourd has been getting as seen here

It is a beauty!

That link is to a Sydney, but I have been watching the blooms Gourd has been getting. If she is getting seedpods then I should be getting them soon, too.

Oh I love it!! I hope it makes lots of seeds for us....uhh I mean you!! ♥

Beth - What a pretty bloom! Love the yellow centers! Just curious .... what does the foliage look like?

Mesilla Park, NM

You should be getting lots of seedpods.. this one is forming lots of pods.. also, lots of flowers. Yesterday morning it was very cool and the flower color looked just like Beth's photo. So I believe the weather has something to do with the dark color difference..

Beth, I had put small tags on the flowers so as I could spot the pods at a glance, well the tags were all on the floor, so I thought that the pods/flower and all had fallen off and they were not holding... well, come to find out, the pods reflect downward and the tags were slipping right off.. keep you eyes on the pods and you will see what I mean.

That was really neat and glad that was the case, I am still hand pollinating anyway, just to make sure that we get seeds, but I really think they don't need hand pollination, they have alot of pollen too.

Gourd - Could you post a photo of what the plant looks like when it has alot of flowers open and blooming(?)...

Thanks(!)...

Ron

I sure will, I know I took one today, it had 14 flowers open, but don't know if I got all of them.

Mine was parasitica cf Mexico #362
What was yours, Gourd?

Mesilla Park, NM

Mine did not have a number on it..

Parasitica MX

that's all it said.

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

I'm sure the numbers mean something to Ron.

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

I only have 1 strain of Ipomoea parasitica...so even though I might not have placed the batch number on Gourds >they're from the same batch of seeds collected from Mexico...but some noticeable variations in the plants might still be present...

The latest bloom. The first ones were big, and now the blooms seem to be getting smaller.

There was only one flower here today. But, it did very well.. Are the pods reflexed downwards? Or are they starting to go down yet?

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

The first few just fell off :(
But now I'm carefully watching because I'm hand pollinating them.

Mesilla Park, NM

Beth, mine had ants in each flower, you may have to take it out during the day and back inside at night.. or hand pollinate.. this is today's.. smaller than usual but I'm hoping it blooms a little more, dont know what the weather has in store for us now. The first couple on mine fell off too, and I started the hand pollination then. I do that even though the ants are there.

The stalk looks so inhospitable, its a wonder that the ants even bother climbing it.
