Martina,
Were any of the Ecuador aroids available for sale?
Shanika
BWilliams...How was it?
Shanika,
Yes,they come in to sell Aroids....mainly philos and anthuriums. They are all bare root and in bags. You have to know your Aroids to know which ones you are buying too because they have a large variety. Luckily Brian was standing close by so I go to ask him which ones got large leaves, then I had to scale back a little and I ended up only getting 3 philos from them. My budget was stifling me :)
If you have not seen their site yet, it's at http://www.ecuagenera.com/epages/whitelabel4.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/ecuagenera

Wow! I like that hilo beauty b or t... WOW! That "speckled" colocasia.... the stems are kind of reddish/purplish and white/cream? It reminds me of one I picked up at a huge nursery nearby, only the leaves are more blotchy than speckled... (no tag) maybe I have black marble? I like that 101 dalmation one (speckled), tho, Brian. GOSH, what did you get? philo? rubber tree?
I am SO there next year!!!! Thanks Martina, for the information. I'm easily convinced to get on the plane and fly down next year, all for the sake of Philodendrons. LOL
Placenciarita, it that a Philo you got from TBL?? Joyce? is it? Oh, we are so going next year!
Rita I love your birthday present. Is it one of these things where you tell your husband you bought it for him as a birthday present buy in reality you are going to take care of it, and keep it as your very own. HaHa
I need the name of it so I can add it to my want list.
Linda
Hi Aunt B and 2pugdogs, my present is a plumeria (maya)from my good friend Texasbigleaf, he gave me most of the tropical plants I have. I ment to post in the plumeria forum.
Those hybrids are coming along nicely Brian. I just have to say the IAS sale and show, besides being a great event to buy plants, is a wonderful way to network with people interested in the same group of plants. There are always great speakers, as Brian mentioned this year was Leland Miyano. His lecture/speach not only covered his research/collection of Araceae but also included some wonderful images of the wilds of Brazil and other native genera in that region. Some of the Bromeliad pics were unreal! And of course there is the delicious Cuban fare offered at the auction which is always a good time, if not rather speedy this year!
It's like a child's 1st trip to Disneyland/world for me! The networking is at the top of my list and the speaker experiences and adventures AND pics!.. They are just an organized group of enablers, I'm sure! I do expect to come home with something I'm not growing now, any idea who the speaker is next year? So, although the plant buying is a priority :) , it's the people experience and knowledge I'll savor. Tell us more about this auction, Michael, is it an annual tradition? (Thanks for getting us needy aroidians back on track about the show! lol) And about some MORE pics from you guys that went,.......please??? That might help us focus..;)
Help us focus, I don't think so. It will put me out in la la land, just a dreaming on what I could have.
OMG look at them plants, especially the ones at the back. We probably couldn't get them in a brown bag with handles. Oh will I think I may have some of those.
BEAUTIFUL
Thank You, Brian. Ooooooo, amorphs, in the middle.... and just to SEE them all! NICE! (I see what you mean, Linda) Guess I'll have to buy small and grow em' out myself.... although, it's a year away, maybe I should just move! Look at those plant people - oblivious to what's going on around them..... "nice, pretty, I need 1 of those, gotta have that, want 2 of them, oh, look over here- wonder if they have any u-hauls left"
I suppose we wouldn't have to look at the ones towards the back just look at the ones sitting on the tables. BUT look at them aren't they beautiful.
I just love em! Maybe we could....... just....LOOK, together... couldn't we? Some of them... we could buy big ones and then whack off the foliage, plop in brown bag AND not carry by the handles..... I mean we have to store over-winter, anyway..?.... ;)
Oh that would tear me up to have to whack on them.
Me too, Linda, BUT we might NEED one really bad... my motto - If it doesn't fit, make it fit - but, I seriously doubt I could do that, either... lol
But remember, if you come by, you'll need more room in that brown bag. If I know you're coming, I can make sure I have some things that will fit in your bag (although when you see what I have, you'll wish you had a big truck. . .)
I knew we wouldn't be able to fly home. We may need to rent a u-haul truck.
if? IF?? Your place will be better than the IAS, you have the stuff that everyone will be looking for at IAS the next year... Aroidia Research is a definate on my activity roster, LariAnn The Enabler ;) You must LOVE going to work.
LariAnn, I do'nt know about the truck but i have started to save all of my brown paper bags! Ca'nt let AuntB get all of your wonderful new EE's. Jerry
That's one good reason to recycle those brown bags!
