Goodbye Morning Glories

Eau Claire, WI(Zone 4a)

If there is one thing I hate about morning glories it is the way they turn ugly in the fall...

We just had one freeze. Even a light frost will sometimes do it. And what happens?
The top part of the picture is yesterday afternoon. The bottom part is late this morning. In a day or two those desiccated leaves will turn truly ugly brown/black.

So this is it.

Goodbye morning glories.

I'm sure I'll see you again next year.

But you started blooming so late, I doubt you'll be back. :-(

Adieu. Farewell.

Parting is such sweet sorrow.

Awww, yes it is very sad. I am ready to bid mine farewell soon too. It won't be long as we've already had a light frost this week....

But I'm already planning for next year...

If the weather forecast is for a just a few nights of frost with warmer weather coming back later, at sunset you can throw a tarps over the plants that you want to keep. Take them off in the morning.

You can extend your growing season for several weeks this way which might be long enough for many more seedpods to ripen or at least get some more blooms.

amazer,
Don't give up....explore the fascinating world of growing MGs indoor all winter!

The ones shown in the picture were covered. We got an actual freeze. The low temp was under 30. (And, yeah we are headed back up into the 80's this week. Figures, huh?) I did notice today that the lower parts of both plants pictured are still somehow managing to produce flowers.
