The last instars of the Virginian Tiger Moth (Spilosoma virginica) are dark red like this, but seem to have longer hair from what I see in my ID book. Sorry it's not a clearer pic, but they always surprise me LOL

I'm not sure either, the tufts look too short, are you going to raise him?
No, I'm not really equipped for that yet. and he was gone when I went back out. I think I'll post on the b'fly forum, too.
That one does look like a Yellow Bear to me.
