Oleander is a common one you have to watch out for. That is toxic so be careful how you get rid of it.
Are these legal??
yeah they were very young and were playing daniel boone or some survival thing like that, and threw them into the brush pile.
I read a murder mystery once where the killer used a sharpened oleander branch to do in the victim.
that is very uuuuum creative...
Not as creative as stabbing someone with an icesicle or a frozen leg of lamb!
Lol.

And I larfed out loud. Thanks!
The law says that it's OK to buy, sell, trade in and possess P. somniferum seeds. Growing them is illegal. Technically.
Unless someone makes a stink or you're growing a field of them, the law has better things to do than rip up your flowerbed.
Years ago in my hometown Gastonia, NC, a woman (a dear friend now) had a "run in with the law" because she had opium poppies and somehow word got around. Not more than 5 or 6 plants mind you, but they yanked them up. This was back in the "hippie days" and the the "war on drugs" was all that many could think about.
I was growing oriental poppies as a teenager and my dad ran them over with the lawnmower as often as he could thinking they were the drug kind........{cuss-cuss}
Actually from what I have read, P. bracteatum has a higher concentration of alkaloids than somniferum, but the annual growth cycle is better for the actual farming of them for drug use.

Robert - so happy to give you a grin. ☺
Legal to grow if you don't refine opium. You can get a jar of seeds at the supermarket, they are not even sterilized, I grew a few before.
To Islandshari:
As far as I know I don't think they cause hallucinations unless you overdose on them and go into psychosis.
It was just a silly joke...I certainly wasn't serious!
Did any of you hear about the woman dismissed by her employer for testing positive on a drug screening? Her attorney claims it was only positive because she had a poppy seed bagel for breakfast the morning of the test.
i saw something similar on mythbusters... they say it can stay in you up to 3-4 days
My old man's dad failed a pre-employment drug screen from a poppy seed muffin, he was outraged and made a big deal so they tested him again. Of course it was fine. true story..unless he's into something I'm not aware of...lol
u never know....
