that is not a beetle, but a bug. I think it is a Jewel Bug from the family Scutelleridae. I have not found the species name, but I did find another image of it here: http://www.treknature.com/gallery/Asia/India/photo106182.htm

Cactusveda is right. I have also found this bug on my Jatrophas mostly. They seem to be so happy there. I have the same here.

That bugs wearing TOO much bronzer. He's just a bit goddy huh? I have jatropha but I have never seen those on them.... I shall pay better attention now...
