I 've seen a few posts that remark how some morning glory just stops growing and/or producing flowers, but are not dead and appear essentially healthy and can stay like that for weeks, months, even years, like Ron's Wallichi. I call this going comotose. I can usually get other plants like roses to wake up by removing all the potting mix & giving the roots a 20 minute spa treatment with half strength fertilizer and replanting in new potting mix. I haven't tried this on mg's because the root system is more fragile than plants like roses. When I suggested I might do that to the Wallichi, Ron did a virtual grimace so I didn't.
It's my theory that when plants go comotose, they've used up something in the potting mix that encourages growth. Perhaps a beneficial microoganism, salt, mineral etc.
Any thoughts?

Comatosity (yeah thats actually a real word) In MG
I never have this happen in Oregon, but I am thinking....it may happen in areas that get extreme heat. I have been listening to threads from other states that say the MGs stop blooming when the temps get really hot.
My comotose morning glory not only stop blooming but growing as well! I'm hoping my Gypsy Bride will bloom again. It went comotose in July. Ron's Wallichi has been comotose for almost a year now.

In my area the only ones not blooming or blooming one or two at a time are the tri color Wedding Bells and the purpurea Gypsy Bride. The foliage is lovely. I just spotted one flower on Gypsy Bride and two flowers on Wedding Bells this morning Everything else planted near and far from that in similar fashion is blooming like there is no tomorrow. I can`t explain it. It appears these two Gypsy Bride and Wedding Bells might be up to something because of the budding I`m seeing. They might be getting ready for a fall show of blooms after it gets cooler. Just guessing. :)
