I believe you have Scarlet O'hara, which is what this is.Mike

I agree .. that looks like Scarlett O'Hara. Are the colors in the picture true to the actual? Yours look more magenta than the ones I grew last year.

If I remember correctly, I believe Ron said that the original SO'H was a solid red without the white throat.

Mike - our plant is the same, apparently. I photo is very much exact to the real plant.

It's not a true red.

I have the same MG in my garden - same leaf shape, flower color and white throat and mine is a Scarlett O'Hara. It's not a true red but more of a bluish red color. Still quite beautiful.

I think you all have beautiful blooms.

However . . .

I think if you research the internet a bit, you will find that the original Scarlett O'Hara morning glory is a solid red (no white throat). Even the comments on the PlantFiles here on DG http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/74/ state that the majority of photos listed are more likely Crimson Rambler.

Here is a bloom I got from seed that were labeled Scarlett O'Hara . . . the bloom is solid, but it is not a true red, but more fuchia. Now, if it was more the color of yours, X, I'd be a happy camper!

it looks more like a fuschia, Mike, but there are a lot of types masquerading as Scarlett O'Hara out there.

Here's one I have which was labeled SOH. I remember reading somewhere that while the original didn't have a white throat subsequent SOHs do to varying degrees.

The comments offered by Syrumani,Anne-X,Beth and Revclaus pretty much echo what I've shared on this topic previously...

The SOH that I grew was the color displayed at the outer edge of the photo posted by revclaus here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/revclaus_1189626860_752.jpg
where it looks red,but the entire flowerr was that color down to the bottom of the tube...the only white visible was from the pistil and the stamens...

I got that color red and I am waiting for someone else I shared seeds with to get the same color...the ones that Gourd got were pink and weren't showing the same color I got when I grew them...if I wasn't inbetween getting a new digital(the old one got damaged beyond functionality) I'd have photos of it...I held the actual bloom up to my monitor and compared it to everything I could find on the web and the color most closely matched the color of the Ipomoea quamoclit Cypress Vine posted by Floridian here
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/11365/
so if that is red, then the SOH I grew is that color and is red...

Emma has some going too and I'm hoping that it's not just the New Jersey red clay that made mine come out red...

I will be so glad to see someone else get them because they really look unlike any others on the web...when the right color comes out >everyone will know it...

TTY,...

Ron

Mine does have a fuschia look, but the color remains through the day.I was after a (true red), but now that I see fuschia, it breaks my enthusiaum. They say most men are colorblind, and I believe it.I got this for my DW, and she would never say negitive.Mike

Ron,
Strain 67 is doing well and is certainly large enough to bloom now. I think I will transfer it to the "hot" grow room and see if that jars it into blooming. Nils take their time about blooming here, but I do have a lot of nils in bloom by now so I imagine strain 67 will be one of the next ones.
