Plants we should be able to grow.....right?

Ruellia brittoniana 'Colobe Pink'

Found it in the plant files. I need to read all the directions for links so I could do this correctly. Anyway...this is the one I have had for years. It is blooming now.

The ones I have that I like are low to the ground, wide strappy leaves, and flowers MUCH larger than the grey leaf one that explodes seeds. I have it in purple, but love the pink also....

Oh, I don't hate them! They are so pretty. I just wish the tall purple ones weren't so prolific. Seriously, I've never seen anything like it. I thought about putting some in pots, to at least control the roots, but that wouldn't stop the seeds. I'll just have to stick with the slower ones.

How long have you had your Katies? I don't think I've ever seen any seeds on my blue ones. But they do spread; they're just easier to control. Last fall I dug and replanted a whole row of them in a long narrow space on my driveway, where normally I'd put liriope or something. They filled it in this spring and make a very pretty border.

Gotta get down low to see the seed pods... lol They do have them and they do pop and spray them. I've never found the roots to spread as much but the seeds can cover a distance.

I picked a bunch of the seed pods ~ look like tiny brown bananas in shape. I put them in an open bowl on the kitchen counter and forgot about them. When I came in from work, I found brown specks all over the counter and thought I had bugs! When I was cleaning it up, I realized it was seeds. Now, I put a saucer on top of the bowl and if the house is quiet, I can hear them pop,

LOL.... I have grown to dislike this plant... When seedlings come up in every pot in the greenhouse you kind of get tired of the look of those seedlings... It's like... "Oh YOU again!" LOL

When my daughter was in school she had to "volunteer" at a community project so I figured it might as well be one I enjoyed participating with so we went to a xeric garden demonstartion patch and helped weed, water etc one fall. It had been a very hot,dry summer and as soon as we turned on the sprinkler it sounded like we had a popcorn popper out there. Tons of Katie dwarf ruellia spraying their seeds out like a cannon. My daughter and I had never seen anything like it before!

I can just see that! LOL
