In this mighty computer age, where they say everything is becoming easier and easier to access - has anyone come up with an online interactive course, where I can learn how to build my own log home without travelling across the world to do so?
I've read in magazines that I can buy a series of C.D.'s, but I'd like to have easy access to the instructor when I need him/her.. even after the course - when I'm building.
Perhaps I'm dreaming..?
Please.. if anyone has any input, give me a shout - or if there are any internet super-sleuths out there (I'm a bit of a novice at searching through this massive brain!).
I have the land, I have the desire.. even have some ideas on what I want, but I live in Zambia (Africa) where services are limited.
Many thanks.. and keep homesteading.

Log Home building - online interactive learning
Not sure but in my experience that looks like site built homes, not something a DIY'er would tackle. May be wrong if so my apologies,I have several friends who have site built log homes and a few with homes they built themselves. BIG difference.
We have been building our INSULATED log home for almost a year. We did a lot of research on half log and full log constructions and decided the half log construction was more of what we were looking for. There a several good books on building a full log home, search on Amazon. Biggest issue is with shrinkage - All logs will shrink over time, even kiln dried. If that is the frame of your construction you need to take it into consideration when installing windows, doors, and anything that will be against the ceiling, IE: cabinents. We had some friends who had professionals build their log home package but even then they had things on top of their kitchen cabinets that they'll never be able to remove now that the home has setteled. Happy to answer any questions I can.
Misha,
GREAT link :) Thanks. Course prices seem reasonable - but I'm still perusing the site.
